Good day, Just found this forum and happy I did, I like most any type of race cars but I particularly like road race cars, I have been modeling since the sixties, never actually stopped but like most of us having a family, work and racing have always taken most of my time. I have been a crew chief, crewmember, driver, tow rig driver for many types of racecars. I hope to semi retire from race duties and devote more time to building...we shall see. I am a very slow builder (to many ideas floating around in my head leading to stalled projects).
Thanks for letting me in!
Regards,
Ron

Thanks Mr. Laski, I have admired your work on other forums and in magazines for some time and share your passion for all types of race cars. Having been to and participated (as a crew chief and crew member)in the Copper World classic (the real ones) I am keeping track of your Midget build as well as any road race cars you build.
Thanks again for the welcome,
Ron

Hey Ron! Welcome. I too have been involved in many types of full scale race cars and motorcycles, including fabricating and crewing a Supermod and a Sprint for the Copper World Classic. But Road Racers are my 1st love.

Here's a picture taken at the Copper World Classic in 1982 by racing photographer Dan Mahoney. In the front row of this shot is Sonny Nutter, former speedway bike champion and sprint car driver. At the time this was taken, my dad was building Sonny's motors for his sprint car. In the second row is Sonny's car owner, Frank Roberts, and some of his buddies whose names I can't remember. Frank had a few too many beers that day and they wouldn't let him on the plane on the way home! Somehow he made it eventually... I'm in the last row left, with all that brown hair that left me long ago , sitting next to my dad. At far right is my stepbrother, Todd, who is now running PJ1 Lubricants. This was my only trip there. I wish I had been more times, because the racing was spectacular.

HAH!! More Horny!!! The scourge of Ascot Speedway! Ever meet his VERY young wife Mariah? Or heard some of his wild stories about flat track racers and sprint car racers and porno stars? Or the exploits of him and Mariah on the highways on the way to and from events?
I did a bunch of fab work on his fiberglass 27 track roadster back in the early 90s. At the time I was working with Ray Hensley, founder of Trackmaster (speakin' of wild stories!), maker of frames for flat track race bikes, and sprint car/Super Modified driver John Ryals.
We had a car in the shop then that we were building for Anthony Simone for the Copper World. Prettiest sprint car I ever saw. And VERY fast too. Anthony wound up with a broken leg at the time of the Cooper World, and the car that was set up for his wild and loose driving style was driven in the race by Wally Pankratz, who had a VERY different driving style, preferring a push.
I know...this is getting OT, but Ron started it talking about the Copper World Classic.

No, as you can see from the pic, I was just a kid when I knew Sonny, so none of that crazy stuff came my way.
I ran into him at the Grand National Roadster show in Pomona last year, and he was with his wife. Not sure if it's the same girl, though...
