This build is based largely on an article from Motor Racing Replica News. I used Fred Cady decals in lieu of the incorrect kit decals. I found reference photos of other Owens Corning livery cars with full screens but none of this exact livery. Regardless I choose to build the car with a full windscreen.

I really like the brakes on this one. I'm curious, why did you go with the full-height windshield. Did that match some references you had?

The history of this OC livery is a bit confusing to me, as best as I have been able to figure this livery was used only late in 1969. I know it was only used at the ARRC finals at Daytona in November 1969. This car finished first overall by the way.
I read in Karl Ludvigsen’s book; Corvette America's Star-Spangled Sports Car that earlier in 1969 the OC Vette raced with a full windscreen before cutting it down later in the year. That is why I chose to build it with a full screen. However after completing the build I discovered that the OC livery was slightly different when it ran the full screen. In hind sight it really should have the cut down screen. I have thought about trying to cut the full screen off but not sure I can do it without damaging the build.
Also it was built several years ago when I was less diligent about the details. My philosophy has evolved since then and I now strive for greater accuracy with my builds.
It's no where near as detailed as your excellent AIR Vette build. Very nice work on that Art.

I love it JC, good looking race car! My kit came in the mail today, and I'm not seeing what is wrong with the kit decals?

The same that I ordered from ebay came in the mail. Not inferring it came from you. You stated in your post that the kit decals we're in accurate. I asked what was wrong with them, I couldn't tell. Sorry for the confusion.

Sorry for the confusion. The big issues with the kit decal color which pink like fiberglass insulation. The correct color is maroon like the Cady decals. And if I recall correctly the kit decal number style doesn't match the 1:1 race car.

I have always enjoyed Corvette Racers, I started a build a way back but other pressing builds took precedence. The dark blue 63 I did many years ago went on to win many awards and appeared in 4 magazines.. I have maybe 50 Corvette kits in 1/24 -1/25 and 1/20 and will get back to them in the near future. Your OC Vette is very nice and I am really liking the detail, Thanks for sharing.. Chris

Carousel 1 used to make a C3 Corvette in 1/18 scale diecast. I have played around with them, and tried to do a cut-down windshield on one.

Was that dark blue '63 Vette built with Weber carbs and the later issue kit custom hood to clear the Webers? And did you take it to an IPMS show in Lancaster, CA? If, yes, then I HAVE met and spoken to you before.

Yup....That's the one! Some things I disliked about that Vette. Like a '63 Vette with a big block in B/Prod? 4 Webers on a Production class Vette? Pin drive/knockoff wheels on a Production Vette? But there's plenty I liked too. Like a big block engine with 4 Webers, pin drive hubs with knockoffs, etc.... See my related post in the new thread about my Modified Corvettes.
