Hi My name is Jonathan Lamoreaux and I have been reading this board for awhile.
I like every kind of car and auto racing that exists. I live in New Jersey and try to get to all seven (now 6) tracks at least once a year. I have a Cannon DSLR an a 400 MM lens that travels to every race with me.
Yesterday March 10th I went to the inaugural NNL Philly at the Simion Museum. I have been wanting to build the 66 Sebring car of Dan Gurney (blue 2) and picked up a Fujimi GT40 and a racing miniatures motor kit. Than I found out it might have had a 427. Oh well. So I joined this board to discover all I can about this sports car stuff. Thanks

Welcome Jonathan. Yes the GT40 Mark II used a 427 engine. The easiest way to tell the Mark II from the GT40 Mark I is the Mark II has a flat rear section; MkII: Mk I:

Welcome Jonathan., There was so many versions of the MK II that raced, originally it was to use the DOHC Indy engine, but when they went to get them they were told, "No they are all going to the Indy Teams" so they turned to the NASCAR proven 427cid, 6 original DOHC cars were built one I have had the pleasure of being in with Briggs Cunningham, but from there the factory car were all 427 with Holley 4bbl carbs, other European teams shifted from small blocks to Weber carbed 427's. One such car, and I am scratchbuilding in 1/16 scale is the Alan Mann AMRGT40-01/02 which also had different side scoops than any other GT40.. for questions or actual info go to www.gt40s.com and check it out, they do have factory drawings and the guys there know about every car ever built , they answer any questions unlike some elitist sites... Thanks guys. I do have somewhere a big book of Shelby and GT racers so I should have done my homework. Also the GT 40 mark 2 that they brought out of the museum to do laps in the lot was a yellow car with black stripes and had Alan Mann Racing markings on the lower body. I am not sure if this is the serial number you are building but I did take quite a few close-ups of the interior and under hood areas front and rear. When I get a chance I can figure out were and how to post them if you like.

I am building this version which was a actually built as an updated MK I on a MK II light weight chassis .. note the weird side scoop the MK I top vent but the MK II rear deck and scoops, thus the AMRGT40- 01-02 designation.. like I said previously lots of combo's out there..Chris I always allow for members to use my research and photos on my fotki if you want, here is the link public.fotki.com/pmodwrks/1-16-ford-gt40/ also included are the factory build drawings....enjoy

Hey Patrick! I'm way behind on my postings, but still glad to have you with us. I'm answering a pretty old post, so I'm sure by now that you've checked out Indycals. He just recently began offering some GT40 decals, including Gurney's Sebring car, and decals for the Alan Mann XGT-1 yellow car.

Welcome aboard. I made it up the Glen this year for the Historics and was there in 1989 for the GT40 reunion. I have not built the Gurney #2 yet. But here is the roadster.
