All the lightweight parts contribute to a diet of more than 60 kilograms (132 pounds).
BMW has promised to dust off the iconic “CSL” badge for its hottest version of a model, and while the M4 is likely going to be the next Coupe Sport Lightweight, this concept shows how the M2 would look in CSL guise. Debuting today at the 2018 Goodwood Festival of Speed, the M Performance Parts concept is an M2 on a diet courtesy of an array of upgraded parts highlighting the company’s M Performance catalog.
Take for example the hood, which is made from carbon fiber and shaves off 8 kilograms (17.6 pounds) compared to the M2’s standard hood. It will be available later this month and will be joined from November by the front side panels also made from carbon fiber to cut an additional 3 kg (6.6 lbs). Even the front winglets along with the side sill winglets are made from carbon, and these can be had right away with a new order of an M2 Competition.
The draconian diet also includes a carbon roof slashing 6 kg (13.22 lbs) and lowering the center of gravity, but the bad news is you’ll have to wait until March next year to get it. While the 19-inch wheels finished in a flashy Frozen Gold shade are not made from carbon fiber, this forged set wrapped in semi-slicks is still 6 kg (13.22 lbs) lighter than the standard set.
But wait, there’s more. The BMW M Performance Parts Concept also boasts a carbon fiber tailgate due to be offered from November to reduce the M2 Competition’s weight by 5 kg (11 lbs). Also at the back, the carbon diffuser is already available and removes an additional 0.5 kg (1.1 lbs).
BMW went to the trouble of upgrading the interior cabin as well where the concept uses a combination of carbon fiber and Alcantara to spruce things up furthermore. The front seats are 9 kg (19.8 lbs) lighter than the regular M2 Competition’s seats, while the rear ones remove 13 kg (28.6 lbs).
Add all these lightweight parts and the end result is a significant diet of more than 60 kg (132 pounds) also possible thanks to a much lighter battery bringing a weight reduction of 14 kg (30.8 lbs).
There’s actually more to this BMW M Performance Parts Concept than its lighter components as the hardcore coupe has also been fitted with an already available coilover suspension bringing the M2 Competition closer to the road by 20 millimeters (0.78 inches). There are several gold accents here and there, combined with black suspension springs and 18-inch brake calipers also finished in black.
The BMW M Performance Parts Concept will be seen in action today at the start of the hill race at Goodwood FoS.
