I have used Testors Model Master white primer for most of my builds, I can't say I'm real happy with it. FIRST question to be asked, what do you guys use for priming? I notice the majority of W.I.P. here in gray so what is it and how do you like it? SECOND, I have one of the LMG paint polishing kits, I didn't use it on the Chaparral 2C I finished in June. The paint on that model turned out very well as far as I am concerned. (I'm done doing contests anymore, strictly display if I even do that.) Anyhow working the A. primer I am not in love with the last couple days with B. sanding media I am not so sure about, I used the section of 1800 grit cloth and it was okay BUT, either the primer did I mention I don't love it or the so called 1800 didn't smooth the primer as I expected. So on a hunch I took a red 600 grit K & S alum oxide sheet and low an behold it eats the 1800 grits lunch.... what is up with this? Any explanations or thoughts please?

I like the Alclad II primers (white, gray, and black). They are airbrush ready, easy to spray and sand, cover well, and give consistent results. I also use Tamiya white primer, but it needs to be thinned for airbrush use. Like you, I'm also baffled by why the stated grit of sandpapers differs in coarseness from different manufacturers. Maybe it is due to the material that the grit is made of.

I use Duplicolor scratch filler Primer in Gray and then wet sand , stuff is really great for filling small sanding marks, and then pre-paint I use the Duplicolor Sandable white primer. I lightly wet sand that but only to remove dust or lint. I dont use my airbrush for primer since I am going to sand it anyway. I do use the airbrush about 50 % of the time. I guess when it comes to any Tamiya Color I am lazy and use spray cans. I have a couple of LMG sets , all are probably 10 years old, they all still work great, an advantage of using a drop of dish soap when wet sanding, but Yes the grits do vary from other brands sandpaper. LMG seems to be much finer in all grits.. Chris
