Certainly a most unique subject, one that I don't ever recall seeing before. I gather that the VARA is a west coast vintage racing organization, so the big block Merc should feel right at home there.
Still, the overall look of the car with that huge wing just looks out of place. But I'm betting that it keeps the rear end glued to the track.

I love the high-evolution style of tube frame race car engineering we see stateside. This is a perfect example. The squatted down stance and the aero bits add up to pure visual drama. It would make a stunning modeling subject. My favorite type of car in this area are the wild lay-down V8 winged asphalt cars.
