Some 25 or 30 years ago (back in the 20th century), my second F1 kit build was the Tamiya Ferrari 312T4. And it looks like it... hand painted, glue snots, orange peel, wrong color, yellowed decals... So I found a partially built donor kit for $45 (+$45 shipping of course) with a pristine body. I will use my chassis (since the other guy didn't paint the tub) and the new body panels. I am eschewing the white decals for white paint and of course that means a lot of sanding and reshooting and sanding and reshooting. I am using IndyCals very bright looking decals where necessary Travel along with us as we attempt to do the impossible and turn a pig into a pearl (btw, when I get done, I will still have a complete, unfinished T4 in the box. it will be moving to the bottom of the pile!) Here are the new sidepods with the correct color orange/white 50/50 mix. Notice the glue snots on the old pods.

pnance26 That donor chassis really looks quite good and complete. Jel The "donor" chassis is actually my original build. The kit I purchased for $90 ($45 for the kit, $45 for shipping) had a partial build of the tub which was unpainted and left in the molded gray. The rear was also partially assembled with the engine which was also left in the kit color... and the rear air ducts looked worse than mine if you can imagine that... so I am using my chassis and the "donor" kit body panels and side pods which were also raw and I can do with them what I want... Will have a few photos later today of the progress. Thanks for looking!

Looking good so far. BTW, I bought a 312B - it said "kit has been started but is complete". OK, you takes yer chance. I got it today. I was fully expecting scrambled eggs, but I got an omelette. I think it'll be a while before I try to decipher it.

Thank Goodness for PayPal being there both times. If you paid that way, why not ask for a refund as it's not what was advertised. Joel

Maybe it is all there, just all the parts have been removed from the trees, some of them are glued together. Who knows? But the guy got $50.00 US for it so I can't really say much. It's just with me, add the exchange rate, shipping, and so called "import charges" and I'm up to $110.00. Really not worth it. Maybe in the end it'll be a nice model.

Paul, I see. As long as you can use it, then I guess it's worth it.

Been able to spend some time out in the workshop. My wife, working on her own project, is amazed at how many tools, putties, sandpaper, glue, saws, clamps, etc. I have amassed over the years. So I am still disassembling the old chassis from the 1986 build. Managed to get the rear suspension and transmission reglued to the engine block, tightened up some loose screws, and got the rear wing off the car. I will have to drill and pin the new wing in place. I am not at all happy with the orange on the sidepods and they may get remasked and reshot. A few shots with comments... chassis tightened up and will get new roll bar that is not hand painted. Top of the tub that shows through bodywork got sanded, repainted and some mistakes corrected.

Next up, a side by side comparison between old bodywork and new. I am still going to use the decals from Michael and IndyCal but I think it will take two layers as the white is pretty translucent. I'll show you that later... You can't really tell in the photo but the old body work is more orange than the new "TS-8 Italian Red". This will be the color for the whole line of 312s.

The rebuild goes on... I am trying the example set by Arcticwolf in stripping the chrome from the front wing and doing it in gloss aluminum. Also, I had no idea that MicroSol would leave stains that took a lot of Novus polish to get rid of them! Lessons learned. Looks much better this time around! Thanks for looking! Your comments are always welcome!

Huge difference in just the paint finish. it's like night and day. The Indy Car White decal looks pretty good to me, but a double decal will really make it pop. Excellent work on the front wing. It now looks like it should; Polished Aluminum. As for the issue with the Micro Sol, glad that you got it off. I always use a Q tip to mop up any excess decal solution(s), and after the decal has set some, a light wipe with a damp Q tip.

Lookin' good, sir! What color is that seat? TS -46, Tamiya Light Sand, by any chance? I'm leaning towards that for my 641/2 seat. They supply the "leather" material for it but I'm not sure if that will work for me. Laying decals on a curved surface is tough enough for me...can't imagine what "upholstering" would turn out like.
