I see its been a while since there were any posts in this section, soo.........
I decided to build a bike. Oddly enough, I've never built a model bike before. Real ones, quite a few, never a model. In my younger days I raced a 250, but not something like this baby. And I thought decalling a car was hard! Fortunately, the kit came with Cartograf decals (I wouldn't attempt it without them). It took me a week to get this far. White Tamiya primer, 2 coats of TS26 Pure White, one coat of clear, 12 seperate decals on this piece alone, and 3 coats of TS65 Pearl Clear just to give it some sparkle. I haven't decided what to do with the finished bike yet, it has clear cowlings which are cool for viewing, but you don't get an authentic look from them - and if you cover them in decals, what's the point? Anyway, it's the Honda NSR250, would I have liked to take a crack at the real thing 20 years ago. I bet its a tad faster than my old Ducati Diana was.

Is this the kit you are building? That looks identical to my kit, yes.

Some progress, some sub assemblies and the engine fitted to the chassis. This is a nice kit to build, very precisely engineered. And lots of detail painting to do if you're into that, like I am.

I'd say you did one super job on decaling the body. They look perfect. As for the frame and engine, the details really pop. Does those hoses come with the kit, or do you have to source them yourself?

Paul, see if you can find this weathering kit from Tamiya. It's great for putting the heat stains on the exhaust.

Joel Thanks Joel. Tamiya supplied everything so far. The kit has some very tiny screws and they even supplied a mini magnetic screwdriver! Nicest kit I've ever worked on (so far).

cheers

I've made some progress (I have 3 projects on the go at once here, as usual).
The decals are great to work with, or this would be impossible. Time consuming though to get it right. Those "dots" are another overlaid decal to simulate perforations in the cowling. I'm giving each piece some curing time before I apply the next one, I don't want to mess this up.

Paul, The bike as it stands looks fantastic. And those "perforation" decals are super effective as they sure did fool me, and I even knew the answer before I saw that picture. And I'm with you about curing time for decals before another decal is laid on top. I've had some real nasty issues before I figured out that rushing the process was my worst enemy.

Well, its done. The best quality kit I've ever worked on, if you're into bikes or just really great fit and detail I highly recommend it. It's almost a shame to put the cowlings on and cover this up. Just the detail in the grips alone! I'm going to have to make a better stand for it, or re-enforce this one, its my only complaint. So some "naked bike" pics before I put its clothes on:

The cartograph decals are so nice to work with, its a shame to waste them, so on went the cowlings. The bottom half is removable at least. I have no idea who Terra is or that Ajinomoto even had a race team, but hell they look nice. I'm really tempted to build this one again, maybe get the detail - up metal forks and chain and sprocket, do it in Repsol colours.......
But first I have some cars to build. Thanks for following along.
All dressed up:

Turned out great!. There are lots of aftermarket parts for these bike kits as you alluded to, that can raise the detail level even higher.

Paul, An absolutely brilliant build. It looks as real as it can get. Not so sure if you didn't post that it was a model, most of us couldn't tell the difference. One day I've got to get up the nerve and try a bike kit. With my luck I'll get hooked, and start a new section in my stash. And at my age, the stash should be shrinking, not staying the same, and certainly not growing, but it slowly is.
