That 1971 accident inspired him to move the engine behind the driver (or the driver ahead of the engine) creating the layout used ever since.

Great picture! Check out the suspension travel and position of the driver's hand on the foreground Cobra. Talk about squirrely. Also note the primitive (and grossly inadequate) guardrail and proximity of the spectators to the track.
