Hello,
I don't think I ever shared this here. Sorry if I did but I don't think so. I'll combine a work in progress with final results in this post.
The 7th generation of Corvettes has not been offered in plastic kits. Only the ill fitting C7R and the snap Stingray. There is also a glue version of the Stingray. The snap kit is rather crude but workable. I have already built both C7R and base Stingray. But there are no convertibles, Grand Sports, Z06 or ZR1.
I never paid much attention to 1/24 diecasts. But Walgreens had the Maisto 1/24 C7 Corvette convertible for $9. So I picked one up without any real intentions. I noticed they were missing brake rotors and calipers. So I thought I'd just add brakes and polish the less than stellar paint. Or so I thought. One thing got after another, and the convertible became a project on its own. So I stripped it and started working on it. It is a crude starting point so I didn't really expect much from it. But let's see how it goes.
I started with this: Unacceptable door gaps, no brake details, etc. Interior detail is very simple but not much worst that the snap kit I'm working on. Actually, the seats look ok.
Took it apart and just before spraying paint stripper I noticed the deck lid was plastic!
Brake fluid took care of the deck lid paint
Added material here, there and everywhere
White primer
Added some details and color
And the end result:
Arctic White C7 Stingray convertible, NON-Z51, 3LT Adrenaline red interior, J6A black calipers option. The scale is 1/24. You can tell the scale differences when next to the 1/25 blue car. Now, before getting any excitement, this is only a glorified toy I took apart, slightly modified for accuracy, repainted and added some details. I stripped the red paint and tightened the gaps in the doors and hood by adding styrene strips. I added seatbelts, other minor details and painted the interior. Body paint is Dupli-Color authentic GM Arctic White lacquer with duplicolor lacquer clear. Unfortunately, most trim details were molded in so they were hard to hand paint. Added brake calipers and rotors. All emblems are extra duplicates I did for the blue car.
I'm happy to say I've built a C7 convertible Stingray, my way.
Next to the Revell blue one I did earlier
Hope you like it.
Thanks,
Ismael
