Great video, thanks for posting it. What a great looking car. One of those 'If looks could win races, it would have been a huge success' cars. I keep hoping for more readily available kits of Can Am cars. I wrote to Fisher Models several years ago asking for more Can Am kits. He sent back with a pretty generic "we're thinking about some subjects in the future" type of reply. On the other hand he did say that they planned on a coupe version of the Cunningham, but it still hasn't shown up. Sandy

As the Monterey event is not "real" racing, the driver of the Shelby King Cobra was taking it easy. During the early 70s when Skeeter McKitterick owned and drove it in Cal Club races, it often ran against McLaren Elva Mk2s, such as the blue one and the silver one which are seen passing it in the video. It often raced against an Alfa T33-3 driven by Scooter Patrick. That car was amazingly fast. The one which passes the Shelby in the video appears to be a different version of T33. But the Elva of unknown power plant and the Ex Frank Monise Lotus 23 twincam really should NOT be passing it. Also, the video says it has a 351 Gurney Weslake Ford V8. When it was built, Ford had not yet introduced the 351 to the world. That was another 3 years away. By the time Skeeter was done racing it, it MAY have gotten a 351 to replace the original 289. For model purposes, it is the same though. Engine with Gurney Cylinder heads are available in 1/25 scale in the MPC/AMT Eagle Indy car kit and the IMC Ford GT40-Gulf. In 1/24, I think only the resin Ford GT40-Gulf can provide the gurney heads, but a Ford Windsor engine and Weber carbs otherwise is not difficult.

Apparantley one of the original Cooper Monaco based Shelby King Cobras survives. It was just sold at Barrett-Jackson for $1,500,000.

Fabulous, just breathtaking! Thanx, too, for the Y.T. vid. From what I remember the engine info is correct too. The 289 was used mostly until bigger blocks came around. That was quite an era!

The first version from this car,I've made in December 1999:--This model was sold to a friend in late 2000, and I think he use always it in South German slot race cars,today...I love this! That is one sexy car.
