Avid motor racing enthusiast, used to build like crazy in my teens and twenties. As usual life took over and I've been out of it for quite some time.Along the way I've tried many things including: hang gliding, racing cars(SCCA mostly), flying real aircraft(too expensive), flying and building RC aircraft(had a blast, but lost our favorite airfield), Simracing(still at it and its almost as fun as SCCA and crashes don't hurt), I'm sure the list goes on, but thats water under the bridge now. Also collect Diecast cars, which I hope aren't taboo here. I'm also getting ready for retirement in maybe 1 or 2 years, so I'm trying to rekindle some youthful experiences, and building models was always a great hobby. I mostly did WW2 aircraft back then, but Cars always were on my mind. I'm so far out of touch though I'm not sure I can get back into it, especially after seeing the detail that you get on your cars. Its that body with the great shine on it I'm just not sure I can get there, aircraft were easier with all semi flat finishes. I'm hoping to start with a Lotus 18, because I have such a great respect for Stirling Moss, who sadly as we all know just passed on, but I can't find one anywhere. I used to have 1/24 scale cars, but I don't seen that many mostly 1/18 or 1/43( which I'm not sure I could eve see anymore!), so 1/20 or 1/24 would be good, even 1/18 would be Ok. Tamiya used to be my favorite, but I'm sure there are so many more now. I'm Bruce BTW, and handle Bsmooth is for driving style, always keep those inputs smooth !

Welcome Bruce. Settle in and look around. Don't be afraid to ask questions. Everyone here is willing to share their knowledge and help out.
It seems we've tried a lot of the same things. SCCA, airplanes, R/C, sim racing.

I do have an AMT/ERTL #8 Dale Jr Monte Carlo I started but never finished. I think I shall have to get back to it before the spiders in my celler completely take over the box.

Bruce, Welcome to our modeling world, you're going to really like it here.
There's all level of builders here, and everyone is more then willing to help. Like you, I came from the world of IPMS WWII aircraft. I've been retired for 2+ years at the ripe old age of 72. Nothing is very hard to learn, just different from how we painted military aircraft. Tamiya kits are basically still king of the hill, and you can get them just about anywhere.
Looking forward to following your 1st build blog.
Joel
