Its hard to believe such a famous car is so hard to find. I've seen a few diecast models, the Technomodel seem the best looking but expensive.I've heard there are 1/20 or 1/24 scale kits, but have never seen one. There is a Mattel one that could be modified I suppose. I've seen one on ebay for around $75. It would need some real wire wheels to make it look half decent.

Fernando Pinto and Model Factory Hiro made 1/24 kits, but they will be pricey if even attainable. Me and you may consider quality and affordable kits of classic European sports racing cars to be highly desirable, but it appears the vast majority of car model builders do not. They would prefer new kits of every year and model of Camaro and Mustang over any race car kits.

Fernando Pinto 1/24th kits run about US$150.00 each, free shipping. Quality wise they are well worth it, and compared to MFH they're a bargain.

But it's a lot more profitable when you can sell the same NASCAR kit 23 times just by changing the decal sheet.

I was looking last night, but it doesn't look like its available any longer. Couldn't even find one on ebay. That Mattel model is looking very interesting If only I could get some half decent wire wheel for it, but they would probably cost an arm and a leg. Who sells the Fernando Pinto kits anyways ?

After looking into the kit, it doesn't have engine details at least from what I've read. I'll have to email him and see. Thanks for the info. Sure is a really great looking car though.

His kits often include some engine detail, but in a way that's halfway between a full detail engine sub assembly and a cast-in "plug" of the visible portions of the motor. It's an interesting approach. He's making a judgement call on what can be seen. I have looked at several of his models using this approach, and properly painted and detailed they are quite convincing. He uses the same approach for chassis details, too. But, yes, he has also done strictly curbside models as well.

I read all 15 pages of the build. While I prefer Pinto's version with the nice photo-etch detail on the windscreens this shows that it's indeed a curbside and that it responds well to a careful build up with, apprently, no really glaring issues (I can read French...). judging from JC's photo of the UMI kit, assuming one could get hold of an early Colombo V-12 it would be relatively simple to do a full detail under hood area. Curiously the FPP kit includes a fully detailed radiator.

Hello,
Went thru that thread and it is a very nice build. From what I have heard Ferrari has been historically difficult to deal with when it comes to licensing. Maybe that could be a factor why we don't see some iconic Ferraris in mainstream kits.
Thanks, Ismael
