I deal with this on a daily basis at work. It amazes me how little the general public understands about tire sizing, or automotive terminology in general. Granted, you don't have to be an expert or a walking encyclopedia just to drive but some of the things I've heard...wow. No, the "R" does not stand for "round". No, I can't tell you how long this tire will last. I can tell you what it is rated for but there are so many variables that it is impossible for me to give you an exact time. Is your vehicle aligned properly? What kind of driving do you do most? Highway? Dirt roads? Is your tire properly inflated? Does your kid do donuts in the parking lot to impress his girlfriend? It goes on and on....One of the most frequent questions I get is "What size tires do I need?" Well, if you would take a minute to read your manual or the little tag on the door post, you would know. Again, I can tell you what your car came with from the factory (sometimes) but it's your car, be prepared! Telling me you drive a 2012 Honda isn't really a lot to go on...and telling me it's blue doesn't make a difference. (Yes, I have actually been given that information when I asked what they were driving!)
