Today's German F1 race at the Nurburgring, one of the best world class F1 tracks in Europe, yet another super boring, crap F1 race.
I sim race, and the Nurburgring is one of my favorites to race on as it has every type of corner you can want, long straights, plenty of elevation changes, and a track that is plenty wide for side by side open wheel racing. Yet, once again we were treated to a total snooze fest of a race. Hamilton and Bottas were in a class by themselves, with Verstappen in the next class as a solo driver. The rest of the grid were also rans that would have been lapped by the top 3 then 2 once Bottas retired if the safety car wasn't kept out to let all the rest of the field come around via Nascar, proved just what is wrong with F1, which is still heading in the wrong direction.
I really don't care that F1 is supposed to be about cutting edge technology. That the teams have to design and build their own cars with the exception of leasing engine/transaxles, other then the teams that also have in house engines programs (including Red Bull, as even Honda refers to them as their factory team). None of the leased engines are the equal of what the factory teams get and use. With Honda leaving at the end of the 2021 season it will get even worse.
World class racing is supposed to be exactly that, not what F1 has become over the years. A few cars from if we're lucky from a few teams battling it out for the win, driver, and constructor championships to what we have today. One team: Mercedes, which is so dominant in car/chassis/engine/drivers that it's a for drawn conclusion as to who will win unless a car breaks or there's an accident, etc.
To hear the commentators once again say that all the action is mid pack and back is an insult to every fan who came to see the race, watch it on TV, or follow it on Radio. And then just to add more insult to injury, Haas, Alpha Romeo, and Williams once again proved which teams don't even belong making the starting grid. Will Russell ever score a single point for Williams this year? Odds are no. Haas has no sponsors as the rear wing & side pods, just carry the team name, and Alfa should be just ashamed of their consistently poor performance.
Say what you want about spec or semi spec series like Indy Car, Sports car GT racing, and even Nascar, the racing is fast, furious, exciting, and there's plenty of up front racing.
Sorry for the rant, but if I was grading today's race, F1's grade would be a solid "F". there's 4 GT races on today that I've recorded, plus more on You Tube.
