After my my Mom passing that is, my PC died... I lost well over 40,000 racing photos. Most I can retrieve some, "Yes" I ordered a back up hard drive since this is the 3rd time I have experienced this. And I had recently downloaded some to Facebook but not as many as I would have liked.. well That's my story and I'm sticking to it!!

I hate to rain on your parade, sir, but I bought an external hard drive awhile ago...and it died. Although I wasn't necessarily using it as a backup, more for storage but I lost my kids graduation pics, a couple of years of Christmas pics with my kids, some travel photos...so, yeah. From now on, even though it might be considered old school to some, I'm burning the important stuff on a disk...and using Google Photos and I have two PC's, each with two hard drives, one solid state, the other, mechanical plus my phone has a 256Gb card, so, between 7 different spots, I should be able to find a picture somewhere! The only downside is trying to remember where!

Chris, I've used literally for years an old Toshiba back up drive that's still functioning just fine, but I don't back up a ton of stuff. With all the financial and personal data that we've started to accumulate, I reverted to using Thumbs drives as a back up to my back up.
