The Asian Model manufacturers in the 70's & 80's, some how assumed 1/28 scale was going to be the next big thing, producing many subjects that none of the Major Manufacturers even thought about. Blue Tank, IMI, IMAI and a few others produced mostly curbside, motorized kits but the Detail on the bodies in general is Very Good. I started buying them because of the subjects since I figured I would rather have several specific in any scale. Not shown is the Chaparral 2J which I built and a few others that just couldnt find right now.. They also gig a bunch of F-1 cars, Ferrari, Wolf, Brabham, BRM and more I have about 12 but couldnt locate them for this article , I will add them on when found. Here is a small assortment of Sports Race cars that will give you the general idea of what they made. I started the Lola t70 with Cady Sunaco decals , someday it will get finished.. more in this odd scale later.. Chris

And there I thought you were going to bring up 1/18.
Those are some iconic models, surely of great value.
Tough to find extra parts for, obviously.
It is like the farm tractor orientation to 1/16.
What does 1/18 versus 1/16 mean?

I forgot about that line of 1/40 th? Q-Cars, the Lemans and IMSA Porsches, Jaguars and others that are Cartoon Pull Back kits, not really much as far as accuracy but I also bought about 10 of those , I figure if I build them all up and display them together they will make a Great Conversation piece.. I didnt get the F3000 or F-1 kits.......yet Lol, This one of the Mitsuwa Q-cars a replica of my RX-7 ..well kind of. These are fun to build I didnt realize they have gone way up in price Chris

I bought and built the Formula 1 cars back in the 80's. Some are still the only way you can get a model of that car. The 79 Lotus was the most desirable until the Tamiya/Hasegawa kits came out at the same time a few years ago. I haven't seen to many of the sports cars. I would buy the Pantera, Lola T-70 Coupe and the Matra for sure. Just not kits you see at swap meets or on a contest table on the East Coast.

I guess the deal with building these is ,,, first replacement decals? then if you dont want to do a lot of scratchbuilding then they would be all box stock.. nice thing about the F-1 kits is a good supply of DFV or ? engines and transaxles for scratchbuilding. Patrick G. did some and they where very nice, I have to say the Wolf WR-5 is a very cool kit and can be built with a fair amount of detail as is the BRM 160 f-1 kit.. well maybe in the future I will do them since I do have them. My Entex BRM P160 is next on the workdesk (after the 3 Ferrari 312T, T2, T3 models already on the desk! The T3 is an enlarged 1/28 kit using the Mauri chassis.)
