Hello, Elsewhere you may have seen I'm working on a 1/24 scale C8 Corvette, starting with a diecast since there are no model kits of the C8 Corvette and I don't think it is going to happen anytime soon. I also collect and sometimes modify 1/64 cars like Hot Wheels, Matchbox etc. Just found a 1/64 C8 Corvette by Matchbox. Maybe it can be the sidekick of the 1/24... within a few minutes it was looking like this: No idea where this is going. Either Rapid Blue, Accelerate Yellow or Sebring Orange or Elkhart Lake blue... Thanks, Ismael

Ismael, I can't even see a 1/64 scale model, and you're going to rebuild it into a proper C8. Can't wait to see your progress and results in pictures.

Hello, The stripper did a great job as usual. No wait! I mean... the paint remover Some mold lines to be worked but nothing major. However, it has no panel lines. Thinking how to address that. Thanks, Ismael

Ismael. For a model of the scale/size, I guess you can just fill up a small jar and soak the body in it with the cap on. In any event the "paint remover" did a 1st rate job. As for the missing panel lines, I guess it all depends on just how soft the metal is so you can scribe it like plastic. If not, then you'll have to come up with one of your ingenuous out of the box solutions.

Hello, The smaller the scale the bigger the challenges Diecasts are made of Zamac which is a mixture of metals. Sandable primer does not adhere well and sometimes chips off easily. So I am now trying self etching primer. It seems to work but it was quite rough. The slightest sanding got down to the metal. Then I tried sandable primer over self etching. Nope! It did not work. So back into the paint stripper and I'm back to self etching. Sanding will be a challenge as the shape is complex and small but I have a plan. Just having fun experimenting. Thanks, Ismael

Ismael, I have no doubt that you'll figure out a better way to apply the primer coat. After all, you always seem to find that better way.

Have you tried the Tamiya Self Etching primer? Its interesting stuff because it is Clear? It lays down well, thin and doesn't hide detail. Like I said interesting stuff but I haven't had it chip on me yet, I have used it on Hot Wheels. 1/43 models, 1/25 models and parts even Photo etch.. give it a go, it is a little expensive for the size can it comes in, small, but it seems to go a long ways.. Clear primer. That's interesting. I'll look into that.

Hello, Light sanding and a test coat of Corvette Racing Yellow. The correct factory color is Accelerate Yellow which is different (pale yellow with an ever so slightly hint of green in it) but I don't have it and will take time and $$ to get it. This is leftover paint from the C7R. But it is from Gravity Colors which is not my favorite as it has terrible coverage. Thanks, Ismael

Ismael, Paint looks smooth and consistent. But I do agree that the color does look a little to lite. The smaller the scale, the darker you need to go. Maybe a very light wash to darken it some?

Hello, Light color sanding, a final color coat and then 2 coats of clear (Scalefinishes SuperGloss clear) Let's face it, this will never be a serious model but rather a fun project. If you are not having fun you are doing it wrong Thanks, Ismael

Hello, *FINISHED!*This has to be the most elaborate painting in 1/64 that I've ever done. With the exception of the tape seatbelts, t he white lines in the headlights that are tiny strips of white decals, and the photoreduced tail lights, everything else was hand painted. The "Frunk" (front trunk) was painted with a template I did with tape. Paint is Gravity Corvette Racing Yellow with Scalefinishes Clear. Hope you like it. Thanks, Ismael
