I had the same sort of issue on my Porsche, after using Solvaset sometimes it wouldn't really make the decal settle but rather crack quite badly.

Small update, no pics. Figuring I had nothing to lose, since I was going to strip the decals off anyway, I went back and used a Q-tip dipped in boiling water and pressed down on the flaws in the roof decal. In the past, I used water that was just hot enough that you could still dip a finger in it. The two flaws smoothed right out. Unfortunately, I wore the toner off of the decals when they were still raised ridges, so there are two little white lines remaining. I'm going to save myself some hassle and leave the roof decal alone and try to cover the two little flaws when I try to match the paint for the hood. The real car's stripes were flat black, but black paint will be a tiny bit darker than the black toner. Even boiling water wouldn't get the radiator outlet decals to conform, so they're still going to be painted.

Ben, I've heard guys using super hot water almost at the boiling point but not boiling. I've been way to chicken to even contemplate trying it out. Most I'll go is with a travel hair dryer that I still haven't even opened the box. Honestly, I'm not even sure where I put the dryer for safe keeping at this point as it's been a few years since I bought it.

I’ve always been careful with how hot the water is and I’ve been afraid to use a hair dryer at all. Since I was planning to strip the decals off anyway, I figured why not see how hot I could get the water without damaging the decals. I was surprised they survived. Perhaps the clear coat Michael uses protected them somewhat. I wouldn’t try it on expensive silk screened decals!

Ben, That's why I've never used the mini hair dryer out of fear of totally damaging the decals.
Flash!! Just made homemade Coleslaw for the 1st time ever, and I must have really screwed up because it tastes pretty darn good.

Progress! The chassis is finished and I'm almost finished with the decals. I had to redo the hood and the decals were so difficult to remove, I ended up having to sand them off. I would have stripped the roof and rear end decal stripes off and painted them, but the ones on the hood were so difficult, I just left them. I tried Mr Color's new GX-2 black for the the hood with with a little white to tone it down to match the roof decals. Hopefully, that will let the black "44" in the radiator outlet show up better. I'm going to try cutting strips of Hasegawa chrome Mylar for the silver strips outboard of the green ones, then I'll be able to add the rest of the decals on the hood. This new Mr Color GX paint is great. They only have a handful of basic colors, plus a lot of clear colors, but the black and clear gloss are very shiny when dry; a lot shinier than Tamiya TS-13 clear gloss. Ben

Looking real nice Ben. A lot of markings available for this kit.

Thanks! The Mylar worked just like I wanted it to! You can see the two spots on the roof where I had to repair the wrinkles in the decals. Fortunately, they're only visible when the light hits them at certain angles. The 44 down in the radiator outlet has just enough contrast so you can see it from certain angles. I just have to do some minor touch-ups and it will be ready for the clear coat. Ben

I don't know where the radiator outlet is to look at the #44!
Otherwise, excellent job!

Ben, Just an absolutely great save. The chassis/ interior looks fantastic as does your engine. The body shell came out perfect. the slight difference in the black on the roof is barely noticeable. As for the paint scheme, I'm super impressed.
You just keep on cranking out one great build after another.

Thanks, guys! This one is turning out pretty well. Hopefully, I won't screw up the clear coat!

Ben, I have complete confidence in your techniques, and will cross the finish line with another winner for sure.

Almost finished! I finally had some time to move things forward. All I have left is to wipe all of the fingerprints off and add the antenna farm on the roof. The headlight and brake light clear parts didn't fit very well, but other than that, outside of some self-induced issues, this has been a painless build. I wouldn't mind building another, if anyone ever releases decals for the #39 CarBahn/Peregrine Racing car that won and then lost the race at Detroit. The mirror-finish Mylar worked great, but it was almost too reflective. Hitting it with a clear coat knocked this back just the right amount. Ben

Looking GREAT! That was an epic race. It crossed the finish line with fumes in the fuel tank!
