Anybody have, know of or any ideas here? Looking for the decals - all of it or just the PORSCHE AUDI lettering - for this car:
I have the Heller 917 kit, a resin body for a spyder, most of the add on's I think I need, but I'm kinda stuck without the decals. My printer really isn't up to the task.

I had the late Allen James make me a set in 1/20th scale for the rare Entex kit, and they are beautiful but unfortunately he passed away last year unexpectedly and finding a set would be very hard. Check with Michael at Indycals , he does do custom orders and the font shouldn't be hard to match. If necessary I would be OK with lending my set to have him resize them in 1/24 for your project. I have the same project and it hadn't occurred to me what to do about decals.. or what version I am doing as far as Livery. Lemans decals may have a set, check them I seem to remember other than Pato's they are out there.. Chris

Hi Chris. Thanks, I did look up LeMans Decals but seems like no joy there. I remember your posts on the PA, you posted it the day after I ordered the same resin body! It's going to be a long term and fairly expensive little project - not to mention frustrating being a Heller based kit, so I want to do it justice with the finishing touches.
I seem to remember this car also being raced in red, but I'm not sure if it was a Siffert car. I can't find any photos of it though so far. I'll let you know if I can come up with anything.

I didnt have a chance today to look for a source on the decals but I will in coming days, Yes it raced in Red as the STP 917 PA , funny story because when Grnatelli got it the day before it was supposed to race it was still in factory white so they went to the nearest Hardware store and the only red they had was a semi Fluorescent Red, equipment safety paint so they bought like 20 cans and went back and the next morning it was that color with huge STO Decals on it. Years later when they went to restore it well You can imagine the dilemma. this is the version I was working on  My Fotki album has a ton of under the body pics here is the link public.fotki.com/pmodwrks/1-917-roadster-project/ I will post some pics of the STP car tomorrow and let you know if I find the decals. Chris ps. it was called the 917PA for Porsche Audi as this was the first time a direct factory link was made with Audi, which was a new name in the US.. |

Guys, are you sure there was an STP red 917PA? I have many 917 and Can-Am books (and even one with a bit of Interserie info), and none mention an STP 917PA. In 1971 Siffert drove the STP 917/10, but that's a different car. The closest I can find were in the Interserie - a yellow car with red stripes which sometimes has STP decals on it and a red car with yellow stripe sponsored by Shell.   Mike |

Mike found it! It was the red Shell car I was thinking of, I knew I'd seen photo's of it somewhere.
I still prefer the white one with the blue stripes.

Spoke a little too soon. Found the same decals from TailorMade in Germany. The TailorMade are better quality. These are photos of the Late Allen James offerings , it appears the body is better but similar to the mystery Ebay body several of us have but its the decals that would be nice to have, anyone speak to Michael at Indycals yet? I will contact him about using my 1/20th scale A. James sheet to make them if there are enough People interested.. LMK what You think.  |
