I don't know if you'd call these "King Cobras" or not. Early 1963 Comstock Racing (I used to hang around their shop when I was a kid, so I saw these cars - I was about 12, 13.....) ordered two Cooper Monaco's, dropped 289 Fords with Huffaker axles in them, and a young Ludwig Heimrath won a boat load of races in them. Cooper #1 as delivered to Comstock, spring '63:
Victory lap:
Both cars were completely written off. But later, in 1966, one was salvaged (maybe two made into one), and raced by Nate Adams, this shot must have been at Harewood Acres:
Of course by then Lola, McLaren, that Texas guy, you know......

Chris: Like you, I am a huge fan of the King Cobras. My question is: “Why would Shelby have allowed it to be kitted in 1/32 by Monogram?” Also, I’m guessing he could block the use of his brand, but as you pointed out, it’s not his chassis. Maybe something to do with slot car scales? I am convinced that a 1/24 resin kit would sell like hot cakes…the car is shapely, it has a storied history, and there are dozens of liveries…but maybe it’s just me… Tim Carrol would come by my Dad's shop when they visiting AAR in Santa Ana and he was originally not too enthused by anyone wanting to make a replica of His King Cobra but Monogram marketed the 1/32 as a Cooper-Ford thus eliminating any Shelby involvement. Carrol was a kind of shrewd business man and anything that didnt bring in enough $$ were not worth his time. The original AAR with Gurney and Shelby as owners, I think split because Shelby didnt get his name on everything. He did go to Goodyear and became the exclusive Goodyear West Coast supplier of Racing Tires a arrangement I ran into as late as 1998 when I wanted to get some for a customer, believe it or not the customer wanted to order them from Pep Boys, we had a special order motto " We can Get Anything" and we meant it but I gave up on the tires because Shelby was too demanding and there was no profit margin at all after their cut. I did get the guy Hoosier's instead. Chris
