A diversion from my Ligier kit from Hell..er. I got this quirky little, and I mean little! Revell kit just as a lark. Something to keep my Watson company on the shelf. Actually, the kit is a beauty:
I was going to swap an Offy I have lying around, but who could turn down a Ford Flathead? So, other than ignition wires, box stock. I know little about old midget race cars, but it seems authentic enough. Besides, it's a very simple car, almost primitive, but early fifties technology so why not? I painted and decalled some bits, everything is just too small for me to work with comfortably, but I like a challenge:
Your basic chassis:
It's like building a Model T hot rod (same concept!)
This shows just how small this car really is:
I'm having fun with this little bugger.

Wow, that came out great! I've collected a few of both versions of midget (Offy & flathead) along with some aftermarket dashboards (for the Offy versions), hoods and decals. This makes me want to pull them out and build a couple! This is one of the few that I've seen completed, surprising for a fairly simple kit.

Thanks guys. A quick build, surprising detail for such an inexpensive kit. No complaints at all with the kit. It even came with photo etched hood straps (and a dashboard that looked stupid so I didn't use it). Paint deliberately a little scuffed to try to capture that "1950's" look. What a pleasant break from the Heller, I should build more of these.
One last pic before the bodywork:
some glamour shots:
size comparison with a Watson Champ Car - these midgets were like go karts!!
Hope you enjoyed

Nice shot with its "Big Brother"! They were (and still are) pretty small race cars.

Very nice! The fact that it was a joy to build makes it even better. I saw modern midgets race in IRP back in 2005. Very cool!

Paul, Just stumbled across your Midget build. And what a build it is. Love the overall look and finish. I can only imagine just how small it really is compared to a sprint car.
