Martin, your photo also shows a Dzus fastener instead of the post and clip provided in the Mag/Trum kit with wire. I think that is what I will stick with for my build but thanks. How far up do the rivets go?

How far up do the rivets go? Personally, I find that photo a little misleading. Check out the close up, attached. You have have 6-7 rivets across the apex of the panel (at the end of the stripes) and a few on the right side, very close to the edge of the scoop. I'm sure I have a pic of the rivet line on each side somewhere. There's one odd rivet lower down, can't vouch for the left side as never seen a decent pic. Attachments:

How far up do the rivets go? You know, I didn't even notice the Dzus fastener. Yeah, I'm sticking with the post and wire as supplied. Looks much cooler anyway (plus I still haven't found any 1/12 photo-etch Dzus fasteners I want to use elsewhere...) Not the greatest pic, but does show that the rivets go all the way round and probably around the top edge under the number patch. Very prominent on this car, and I would hazard a guess adds fuel to Chris' belief this was a trial scoop (sans splitter) so in this renovation may have been dressed to deliberately not look as complete as the rest of the car.

This is the "restored to race spec" actual Le Mans winner, if it had posts and clips I'm sure they all did:

You know, I'm struggling to understand this site more and more. I wonder if people actually read the posts, or simply respond to pictures.

My apologies for not following this thread. I may be able to offer a few bits of info.
Neon or Florescent paint is flat. The first use by Shelby American was at the 1966 Daytona 24 hour race. Some of the notes I found says that it was used to make it easier to spot and identify the team cars. The paint also faded to a muddy brown quickly. It also didn't hold up well either. This info was passed along to the manufacture. It was used again at LeMans 1966 by both teams. The colors were painted on between Qualifying and the start of the race. The paint help up a little better, but still faded to a muddy brown or red color within 2 days.
Side note, Post race, some of these cars were used for displays around Europe repainted as the winning car. Car 4 in particular was used in Paris by Ford France. Eventually Indianapolis Motor Speedway museum obtained this car, claiming it was the actual 1966 Race Wining car. I have pictures of the display stand I took when I lived in IN making this claim. When the actual 1966 wining car broke cover, IMS Museum decided to strip the car to contest the claim. As they were removing the paint, sure enough they discovered this strange reddish brown paint on the nose. It was the remains of the very faded and degraded Florescent Green of the #4 car.
Notice how Team Shelby and Holman Moody never used it again. Ironically, Ferrari used Florescent trim colors around their numbers at the 1967 Daytona race.

Hello gentlemen, As I am picking up my Ford GT40 build I stumbled over the picture below. This raises two questions and I hope someone has the answers On the valvecover I can see an identification decal with the motornumber..but this number is unreadable to me. Can someone tell me what the motornumber is? Also on the carburettor there is a piece of cloth, was this to prevent dirt entering while the engine lid was open? All answers are much appriciated.
