NO ROVALS! I hate those courses because they are perfectly flat (except for the oval portion) and half the time as Micky Mouse as some street courses. And you really can't see much at many of them. When they used to use the roval at Texas World Speedway, you couldn't get near any of the action in the infield. As bad as the layouts were for racing in Houston, as a fan, you could get near the action and see a decent amount of the track. On TV, the rovals are usually a visual disaster, too - kind of the "empty lot" of racing. (Indy's may be the one that works best on TV. Although I hear the NASCAR drivers hate driving it.)

Jim Thanks for the link, I'll be heading over there in a few.
I've heard more then a few times that one of the reasons that Nascar attendance is on a downward spiral is that their die hard fan base is aging to the point that they just can't get many of the races, or any at all. And unfortunately, that base is dyeing off as well. Same for us old Cart fans. I was at the 1st Pocono race in 1971, saw my 1st F1 race at Watkins Glen in 1967, I was 19 then and all of 23 for the Pocono race. I'm 73 now, There's no way I could drive to Pocono, watch a 5 hour race and then drive home again. I'd have to make it a 3 day weekend and need seats that are out of the sun and have great bathroom access.

Part of the reason Ovals are dieing in Indy is because the races have become pretty boring to watch. Texas this year was a perfect example and bout made me fall asleep with every race being follow the leader. I dont remember Gateway being that great in previous years either.
I dont blame Indycar for almost only having the 500. If TV ratings and attendance numbers are going up this year with the schedule we have why change what is clearly working. I know people keep asking for ovals but in the ones I've seen nobody shows up.

Odd then how they didn't ever show Bridgestone Arena, home of the Nashville Predators. Possibly because the Arena was 4 blocks from the track. And NBC nolonger carries the NHL. Mike Since when? Every single one of the Stanley Cup games was on NBCSN or the network. They will switch over to USA and Peacock when NBCSN goes away.

Mike Rovals in NASCAR are way for a venue to keep its dates while they "try something new". The original roval at Charlotte was truly boring. Now there is the roval at Daytona... boring. Indianapolis? Boring. Pocono? What a way to ruin a good race which they have already done by moving both races to the same weekend (No one can ask what the loss of a second weekend of racing has done to the local economy like hotels, grocery stores, groups that use the concessions as fundraisers. I asked the question of Pete and Mike on The Morning Drive on Sirius and basically got blown off like they didn't even care nor were they willing to even consider the question. Michigan, Talledega, Homestead-Miami, Atlanta, New Hampshire, Auto Club speedway in Fontana, Kansas, Texas, Las Vegas, and the above mentioned tracks have all been considered for "roval" racing (I even hat the name as a mash-up of road course and oval). If IndyCar decides to follow NASCAR into the "roval" world, I won't be watching. It's just too sucky.
