Hi guys. It's a bit quiet here at the moment so I thought I would post these. All of them were finished a while ago.
First up are three of the 6 European M3s that came to race at Bathurst in 1987 as part of the World Touring Car Championship. All of the BMWs had a terrible time on the mountain with constant crashes during practice costing them valuable car and driver improvement time. Ultimately they were no match for the raw speed of the Eggenberger Sierras.
I used the Beemax rally kit with Scale Production wheels, painted the stripes on all three and the decals come from a variety of sources but mostly done by me. #47 Mercedes Stermitz and Annette Meeuvissen. DNF
#46 Markus Oestreich and Roland Ratzenberger DNF #41 Gary Brabham and Juan Manuel Fangio II finished 16th
This is the 1987 Australian Touring Car Championship winning car of Jim Richards. The Decals are from Decalcas with Scale Production wheels. I built this one not long after the Beemax kit was released so the photos aren't as good as the others. This is the same car and driver as the 1987 JPS car from the 1988 Australian Touring Car Championship.
I have one more half finished but I have to strip and repaint the body so that will have to wait another day.
Thanks for looking CheersSS

Great looking M3s Shawn. The Beemax is a big improvement over the old Fujimi kit.

Fantastic trio of E30 M3s. Heads Careful stripping the Beemax M3. I had misfortune when I stripped a built / gluebomb with a varnish and paint stripper that I'd been using on other manufacturers kits., tamiya, Fujimi, Hasegawa etc.to great success....only to have the body become tacky and being to melt. I did manage to save it... But it's probably trash tbh.

Thanks guys.
I am a bit nervous about the paint stripping because I have already had that exact same problem a couple of years ago. I used Tamiya's own paint stripper and yep the body went all tacky and I couldn't save it. I was lucky enough to find a new body on the Spotmodel spare parts page so I didn't have to buy the whole kit. Tamiya paint stripper is not all that great, it's very similar to brake fluid, very messy to use and even makes Tamiya's own plastic tacky too. Would not recommend.

Holy Cow!!!. What were you using to strip it? I think we all need to know what product to avoid.

I was only looking to highlight the danger of stripping the Beemax E30 M3 kit. The product isn't really in question as I've used it on a variety of Tamiya, Hasegawa and Revell AG kits without issues. The Beemax kit didn't behave the same. I regret posting photos on your post as its about your 3 well built M3s😎👍

Have to agree with everyone else, great looking M3's.
Where did you get the wheels for '88 Gentleman Jim car?

Thanks guys. I've decided to try and save the current paint job rather than try to strip it. It could go either way. Paul, the wheels are my own centres fitted to Scale Production rims and tyres. The centres originally come from a Belkits Opel Ascona kit but I had to heavily modify them to fit and I am in the process of making different types for different projects. They're not perfect and don't really pass close inspection but they look close to like they are supposed to. Cheers ShawnS

Shawn, Just a super impressive set of BMW M30s, especially with the painting of all those stripes. And those AM wheels are a must have for me. I built the Beemax Kit and loved the build.
For paint stripper I use plain old Denatured Alcohol. Works fast and has never ruined or damaged a body or any assorted plastic to date. What's more you can get it in any hardware store.
