Since Future is no longer made but there is a product called Pledge Floor Gloss or Pledge Acrylic Floor Finish, will those work? Someone also said Tamiya clear gloss with MLT... how about that? Probably the same stuff. Tamiya might work also. Like I said......try it on a scrap piece.

Patrick, try dipping it in Future. Or using an acrylic clear. I would test on a scrap piece to get the technique perfected. Since Future is no longer made but there is a product called Pledge Floor Gloss or Pledge Acrylic Floor Finish, will those work? Someone also said Tamiya clear gloss with MLT... how about that? Pledge Floor Gloss is Future, just renamed and repackaged. I believe it has also been discontinued.

Patrick, Pledge is just the name change. It's the same exact product.

Hi Patrick,
Glad to see the WIP restart. I follow this one closely as this will surely be my next one in Spa version… or not if the 333SP finally arrives!
Future, or pledge or Klear is your friend in this case. It can also work pretty well with Alclad gloss clear coat (Aqua Gloss).

It's readily available in most places, yet I was told by one store owner that they couldn't get any more of it. I won't use the stuff myself, but for those who do the time may come when you should stock up, just in case.

I mean how often am I going to use it? And after what I have read about shooting through an airbrush and the subsequent nightmares, that is never happening. Dipping only!

Well things have slowed down again until next weekend and the Halloween weekend. I had a little bout with vertigo this past weekend that kept me out of work on Friday and out of the shop on Saturday. Right now, I am dealing with the rear cone attachment and prepping it for primer. And then there is the matter of the wind screen which can be put off until I do some R&D with AlClad Aqua Gloss Clear, Pledge and Tamiya clear. I have enough scraps to try all three. Will post results next weekend.
All in all, we are screaming into another fall and oh, boy... one build this year compared to three last year... or was that the year prior and I spend a whole year on that effing GT40. And to think I have two of those beasts!
Oh well, onward and upward.

Well, some progress was made on attaching the rear cone and getting it all puttied and sanded with some test primer on it. I am seriously considering doing an aluminum color on the inside of the body work pieces front and rear as that is what is shown in the photos. I bought a couple of different AlClad aluminums and the AlClad primer. I think it may be worthwhile. Other than that, I worked on getting the straps on the sidepods and did a test with the AlClad AquaGloss for the clear windscreen. I haven't inspected the results yet and the Pledge product is supposed to be here soon. Will post photos later. Also, do you think Pascal's use of the yellow base under the Ferrari red has any significant improvements over just primer and then the red. I haven't decided which red to use yet. I'm not real happy with the colors I have now as they don't really come out gloss without a ton of finishing. I swear that so far the only thing that works for me is the Tamiya Red and the Tamiya Spray Red. Testing will be in progress. I sure don't want to mess up a $700 kit with a crappy paint job!

I'm not the paint expert by any means, but on all my Ferrari's I use Tamiya red oxide primer as my base coat. All reds are by nature somewhat transparent and having the red underneath gives a more consistent and deeper colour. I think TS8 as a top coat would be perfect for that car.
good luck buddy.

I am the opposite of the paint expert but I do agree that TS8 over red oxide primer looks great. Definitely think that would be a great look on this car.

Patrick, Just like most here, for Italian Red I use a white primer tinted with Red. It does make a difference to the brightness. I'm a big Gravity type guy and I must have at least 4 different shades of Ferrari Red.
As for paints not coming out glossy, Lacquers never do, and Tamiya's Acrylic Lacquers even their glosses never really gloss up. That's the job of the polish system and wax if you use it. The best gloss I've gotten out of the bottle is from enamels.

Isn’t there a bit of color difference between the Ferrari Red of 1961 and the Ferrari Red of the 70s and then the 80s?
I know current cars are all matte finish. Weird how that goes…
What do you all think of the aluminum on the inside?

Weird how that goes… What do you all think of the aluminum on the inside? Yes. They were a true "Italian Red" up to somewhere in the 70's, then it got a bit brighter. Then it got even brighter and glossier because it showed up better on the tv cameras. It went back to being more scarlet about when Vettel was driving it. Now it's just yuk.
The aluminum was a great choice, very authentic looking.

Paul, the photo was the actual car! LOL! I did put down a coat of AlClad aluminum and found out that resin is very unforgiving. I hadn't polished out the scratches and boy howdy, did they ever show up! I've got some work to do! Patrick
