This model was made 20-25 years ago and is more or less Scratchbuilt. The body master was done in modelling clay and used to create a RTV Silikone form for casting a solid lump of 2K Aradite. This lump was then hollowed out using a dremel and a lot of patience. Engine is a modified Heller Ferrari 330P4 engine and wheels/tires are modified Heller parts/ cast copies. Petrol line is coloured fishingline and intake covers was made from very fine stainless steel filter material. I remember the biggest problem was to find suitable reference materials, and this often halted the project. I have just dusted the model off and made some small repair and giving the body and wing a coat of Future and took it outside for some more photos Yours, Niels Elmholt, DK

Oh, cool! Always love seeing stuff scratch built or kit-bashed because there is no kit of it. Very nice.

Very Nice Neils!
One of my more favorite Ferrari F1 cars. Although there was a version with a smaller nose opening that I felt was prettier. I don't remember which race had which nose though. This car with the high mount wing must represent an early season car, such as Monaco, as IIRC, it was during the 69 season that FIA banned the high wings due to numerous on-track failures. The Heller Lotus 49B, McLaren M7b and Brabham BT26 of 1969 vintage have the high wing also while the 1/12 Matra MS11 by Tamiya has a later season mid-height wing, and the Matra MS80-Ford drawn by Phillipe De Lespinay (but I believe never kitted by Heller) had the late season low-wing on the engine cowl.

The model is based on the car racing in the Spanish GP in May. There were some crashes during that race caused by collapsed wings and the high wings were finally banned two weeks later during the practice for the Monaco GP. You can actually find pictures of the cars during practice with the high wings and of course from the race with hastily manufactured makeshift low wingg/spoilers :-) There are some great shots here: www.motorsport-magazin.com/formel1/bilder/monaco-gp-monaco-1969-galerie-rennen-1969,1,1,0,60,788,0.html
