I just finished this one yesterday. I've always like the 240SX and I considered buying a gray '91 back in 1999. I ended up deciding on a '96 Mazda MX-6 because it was faster, handled just as well, and made great V6 sounds. The 240SX's engine was pretty agricultural and didn't like to rev like the Mazda. I s till regret selling that Mazda! Finding a real 240SX that that hasn't been molested by the Fast & Furious and drifting crowd is difficult these days and they are priced accordingly. This kit would have been a weekend "slammer," but it must have spent time in a hot attic because the body looked like it had been in a rollover accident, which took some work to fix but it still caused problems with the clear parts. I also kept getting debris in the paint on the hood when I clear-coated it. Had to redo it four times! I just used whatever paint I had in the stash, so the interior is a couple of Tamiya grays and the exterior is a 50/50 mix of Tamiya LP-19 Gun Metal and LP-61 Metallic Gray. I've since popped the body off and removed that fiber from a Q-tip that's on the inside of the windshield. These Fujimi kits remind me of the old Monogram 1/24 car kits from the late '70s and early '80s, like the TR7, 635 CSI, and Ferrari 308 GTB. It was simple, with not too many parts, but decent enough detail to look good when finished. Ben

Ben, Now that's one impressive looking 240SX. From your pics I'd say that the paint job really came out looking damn good.

Hmm, so you didn't think much of the Nissan 2.4?
Have you ever driven a Skyline GTR?
Nice job Ben.
Paul (the Nissan fanatic).

Thanks for the kind words, guys!
Paul, I don’t recall all of the details (can barely remember what I had for breakfast this morning), but the engine just didn’t seem to have that “personality” one would expect. It wasn’t as rev-happy as the Mazda V6 or the Integra I’d driven for quite a few years. Of course, it could have been that particular car. I loved the looks and handling of the 240, but the MX-6 just checked more boxes. I’ll bet a 240 with a turbo 2.4 would be a hoot.

Very nice build! A cousin had one of those (in black) back in the day and it was a nice car. I had to drag him out once when he got stuck in mud, in my even lower Toyota with slicks... (not really slicks, they were bald but I told everyone they were racing slicks...) Thanks, Ismael

Thanks, Ismael! I’ve had “slicks” like that on my car, too. Ben

Ben, the "Americanized", read "smog motor" that we got wasn't much, but the Japanese domestic market version, especially when Nismo got their paws on it, was ferocious. There's a couple of companies around here that import used Japanese engines and trannies, very popular transplants for the "rice rocket" scene. We had a Nissan Hardbody pickup with a 3.5 4 cam JDM motor, must have had 50 HP more than what the factory gave us. Anyway, great job on a cool little car man, I like it!
cheers Paul

Paul, I'm always interested in your builds as you know. Don't recall a 1/12 scale McLaren Indy Car. So I'm assuming that it's one of your special conversions. joel
