I like the idea, but can you run a Porsche engine in a sprint car? I am not sure but for several years VW 1876 engines were popular, light , flat opposed cylinders made for low profile and they can put out some serious horse power. Art Laski might know. Personally I like it...The Porsche S engine can put out 621hp ! add Lucas injection and some tuning it could jump right up to 900+ hp easily! Chris

Chris Back in the 70's when the Grant king chassis you're using was racing, you could pretty much run any motor you wanted. Today, not so much. The rules are a lot tighter about that. And Chris, you're right, the VW was a popular midget engine from the early 70's up until the late eighties. This looks like a fun project. Look forward to seeing it come along! -Art

I think, unsanctioned, at your local track you’d be fine. At least around here there aren’t many rules unless you’re trying to run with a series. Weekly track racing is mostly
“Does it look like a sprint car?”
“Ok you’re good.”
I think it would be awesome if someone did something like this though.

I have a couple of the old Monogram sprint car kits. Maybe I should give this a shot - how about a flat12 Ferrari? A Delage straight8 supercharged?
Just for fun!
Keep it up Chris I'm lovin it!

Yup right out of the kit, be sure to pin all the joints or it never goes together straight...

Thanks Jim, Black on the Bottom and Red on the top with a Gold dividing pinstripe ( hopefully!) The last couple of days produced a Radiator (not finished) and since it has Lucas Fuel Injection I figured the fuel tank would have to be pressurized thus the Indy car style cutout and the duel Fuel filler connection cut in the rear. I am adding a couple of Fuel Injection , direct injection logs tot he engine, just more parts to make..Lol. I found some very obscure decals off of a 1976 March F-1 car LavAzza Coffee, which strangely enough I was drinking some when I found these decals (expensive stuff but very good) they are in a bright Yellow and should look nice on the Red over Black paint.. Todays pics Happy Modeling Guys!!

The fuel tank like that makes me think now it should be a competitor in the Little 500 at anderson speedway. 500 laps in a sprint car with live pit stops and push trucks on track is truly incredible!! An event I strongly encourage any Motorsports fan to attend at least once. A ton of different kinds of cars and engines have always shown up for that deal. And lots of teams use old Indy car fuel rigs for refueling.

Finished the black with the nose wrapping up to meet in the middle of the nose. Gold pinstripe coming next, along with decals, getting close to making a interior and finish up by assembling all the pieces.. Chris
