Hi All, Life and some airplane projects have kept me from working on any racing subjects lately, but I’ve finally made some progress on my Tamiya Porsche. I had spent at least two years looking for decals to build one of the Blue Coral/Slick 50 liveried cars. Recently, forum member Steve ( gorf) came to my rescue with a set from Ricambi Decals, featuring the #30 car as it appeared at Laguna Seca and Donnington (I think). The body is a mix of Tamiya Racing Blue and Mica Blue. The decals worked very well, in spite of their age. I only had a couple of spots where they were brittle and cracked, but these were easy to fix. I just need to wipe off the decal goo and clear coat it. Since I’ll never have the engine cover open, I’m building the model as a curbside. Hopefully I’ll have some time this month to build the cockpit and suspension. Thanks for the decals, Steve! Ben

Love the colour. Did you mix the two paints together and airbrush it, or is it mica blue over racing blue?

Thanks, guys!
For the blue, I just mixed the Racing Blue with the lighter Mica Blue to darken it until it looked close to photos. It worked out to about 60% Mica Blue. The real car was apparently painted a Renault color, IIRC. I have the paint code in my notes somewhere.

Ben, Sorry about your mom. I do have some spares for that set if needed.A little micro scale decal film might have helped them from splintering.Regardless the car came out looking good. Steve

Steve Thanks for the kind words, everyone. Steve, I spent a lot of time debating whether to coat the decals or not. After I tested an extra one, I decided to risk not coating them. The only ones that gave me any trouble were the windshield decal and one of the yellow swooshes that I handled a bit too roughly. I’ve had mixed results with the Microscale stuff. Sometimes the decal will curl up badly as it dries. I think sometimes the Microscale will react to setting solution differently than the underlying decal, kind of like how a bimetal strip reacts to heat. Overall, I’m happy with the results! Ben
