I'm running out pcs of those small 3x4 sheets of Micro Mesh Emery Polishing cloths or paper, and refuse to once again spend $12-$18 for a new pack of 6 3x4 sheets 3,200, 3.400, 6,000, 8,000, & 12,000 grit listed on Sprue Brothers and ScaleHobbyist.com. Does anyone have a resource for 8x11 sheets which would be much cheaper.
Thanks, joel

Benz300, I checked out my local auto stores and they don't carry the grades that I need. Will be checking a local auto body shop that we've used a few times over the years and see if he can point me in the right direction.

Try 3M Trizact sanding film. It comes in 3000 and 5000 grit and works very well. I was able to pick some up at a local Walmart or there's always Amazon. It comes in 3 2/3" x 9" sheets and is about $7.00. I've been using it for about 6 months now and I'm pleased with how it works.

ffracer6, Thanks for that information, but those grits aren't what I'm looking for. Tamiya 3000 sponge is my go to for that grit, and 5,000 gritg is covered by 6,000 grit. For proper polishing of a gloss coat I need to use all the grits that I posted, which is the grit range of the Micro Mesh system. joel

Paul, Thanks so much for the link. As soon as I saw it, I jumped right on it and ordered it. Last day of free prime, so there's no shipping fee. joel

My Emery Papers can 1 day late. 2 sheets each of 9 different grits. Been working on the Revell of Germany Jaguar XKE (been jumping around with a few builds which is an all time 1st for me) and just polished out the color coat with 8,000, 10,000, & 12,000 all wet. I let the paper do the work as I'm just along for the ride. The finish is the best I've ever ended up with at this stage. Paint was Good old Tamiya Acrylic Lacquer. Not a single crack along the fold line which I usually get when working with wet emery cloth. Just super impressed so far. joel

Joel , Sounds like you found the good stuff, Barry McGuiare showed me when polishing using this kind of paper just put a drop of Liquid Dish Soap on the wet paper as you go along, he showed me how it prevents (Micro) burning of the paint particularly on the edges also reduces friction on makes ann even smoother finish.I have done it since 1978 when i met Barry. Dont be alarmed of what looks like color coming off its just the micro sandlines cleaning out when you wet sand using the soap. It is also the method my Dad showed me while sanding the Prototype Cox 2D and Dino 206sp bodies for the slot cars. Good luck Chris Ps. I dont use much clear after using some of the methods because they are so smooth and shiney no need..just like a real race car. A full Clear Coat on the average size race car averages 8 to 20 lbs of additional weight. Thats why Williams, Mercedes and a lot of other F-1 team have bare Carbon Fibre on a lot of the car, this year.

Chris, When wet sanding/polishing I just use room temp water. Never thought of adding a few drops of Dawn or even just using it directly. Will certainly be trying it, as I posted in Chris's last update, I've been having issues and more issues with my painting and finishing after all these years. joel

Try the Dawn I have had excellent results since forever, learned it from my Dad and and Barry Mcguiar.. cant go to wrong... This 36 Ford Kustom was built in 1963 by my Dad , I pulled it out a couple tears back and did a 6000 wet sand with Dawn and I think it shows how well it works even on old paint. By the way I enetered it in a show a few years back because my Dad was attending, it won a First in Kustoms! After nearly 50 years it holds its own!! Chris
