No, it's not one of those resin curbsides. I had one of those old Monogram "kits", more like toy. But the body shell is fairly accurate, and I found that somewhere along the line I'd acquired one of Calvin's upgrade packages, so a bit of a challenge for sure.
Starting with this
I decided to just build what would be seen, basically the cockpit and the engine compartment. So two separate modules, to be joined later. Doubling up the firewall was the easiest way, and it'll be more accurate down the road.
The engine bay tube frame
And the cockpit module. They'll be glued to eachother much later.

Lots of carving up of the original required, especially since the car I'm building is slightly different from the kit "Filter Queen".
Progress on the cockpit
Pedals, shifter, steering tube, driveshaft, side panels added

The two halves glued together, capturing the cockpit module. Lots of body prep needed and some tricky masking.
I hated doing this so soon, but it was the only way. Paint, decals and clear coat
Voila, one pink race car (the 55 Indy winner, decals courtesy of Michael)
Secret ingredient - Offy courtesy of Texas 3D Customs
I'll save his sweet tranny for something else later.

The Offy. Base coat, some metallizer rub and engine grime wash
Some fancy drilling (I hate this scale, lol)
Ready to go together. Yes, I cut a hole in the floor of the car. So did the guys who built the 1:1 car.
And now it all fits. Kit "wheels" just to check it's not a tripod
The suspension is part kit and mostly scratch

How to drill a hole in the centre of a wheel - simple, put the kit wheel on top and drill through it
It all fits fairly well. Looking more like a car
Calvin's wheels are certainly an improvement
Tweeked exhaust pipe

WOW! What a home run! Bob Sweikert's winning car! What a beauty! Love it! Ran out of superlatives but you get the idea...

An absolutely stunning build in 1/24 scale from a die hart 1/12 scale guy.
