Hello, Here is something very unusual. I recently got a 1/32 scale 1937 Chevy. It is the Life-Like kit from the early 70's which is a re-issue of the Pyro kit released in 1963. I was very disappointed when I saw how crude the kit is. Multi piece body, no chrome plated parts, molded tires, no details. Very crude and basic. It is really not worth trying to improve on it. I mean, there are other '37 Chevy kits out there in other scales. So I had 2 options: Put it back into darkness forever, or do something fun. How about a BOX STOCK stress-reliever non-serious build? Yeah, I can hear Joel laughing. I first thought of putting it together just glued without paint. But I can't get that far. Instead, this will be an exercise in the basics of surface prep in between some more serious projects like the Talbot and others. I added 2 strips of bracing to keep the body tight against the fenders while gluing. I was going to remove them but it seems the don't interfere with anything so most likely will stay there. Glued all body parts (hood, both sides and deck lid). Started to blend the body joints. And here we are now. This may pop out every once in a while while working on other projects. Thanks, Ismael

Hello, So, in accordance with Murphy's law, 3 seconds after laying the most perfect coat of the most challenging color, a STUPID mosquito crashes into it... Thanks, Ismael

Ismael, As a child of the 1950-60's, who started building models in the earlyish 1950's, I can't say I actually remember this kit, as I built just about anything that graced the small model section in the back of Harold's, the Stationary/toy store on 1st Ave & 20th St. in Manhattan, which wasn't very much. But that kit is about what all kits were back then. Even the Revell, Monogram, Aurora, & Hawk aircraft kits were about that basic. So in a sense, this kit is another walk back in time for me as you cast your magic on this build. Ok, so maybe my added on intro may be a little too much, but I'm really going to enjoy your progress on this one. Get it done, and I'll treat you to one of Mollies super Ice Cream cones on the other side of 1st Ave, across from Harold's.
As to the Kamikaze fly, you should have put that perfect paint job in a drying bin/box/container ASAP. So did you have to sand, polish, and repaint the trunk hood?

Hi Joel,
Nice story! This will be in fact a box stock build to honor those times. The stupid bug crashed into the paint while I was doing the last pass with the airbrush. I already sanded it out and will try to repaint the trunk soon.
Thanks, Ismael

Ismael, I'm still betting that you'll find a few ways to once again not qualify for a Box Stock rating. I've been modeling this time around from the early 1970's and this is the 1st time I can recall a Kamikaze bug crashing into a on going paint job. Now if anyone else had posted that, I'd say it was most likely a stretch of the imagination, but since it happened to you, I believe it 100%.

Hello, Everything is fine in Paintville. The offender was sanded off and leveled using Micromesh polishing pads. A good clean and another very light coat of paint was airbrushed. Since humidity is ultra high (any more and I'll grow gills), it dries a bit hazy. That's not an issue. At this stage I am looking for smoothness, not gloss. Still pending color sanding, clear coat and polishing. So there are still plenty of opportunities to screw it up Thanks, Ismael
