I bought this about a year ago, and I started on it about the same time but didn't get to far on it. It wasn't until here recently I picked it back up and started to work on it again. So while I've been working the Porsche I've been working on the Renault as well. This car won the 1978 24 hrs of Lemans with drivers Didier Pironi and Jean-Pierre Jaussaud. This Tamiya kit was originally a Battery Powered model, but this is the year 2000 reissue which doesn't have the motor. The chassis is very simple. You can tell I stated on this awhile ago as my picture quality wasn't that good as since then I've got a good camera. This is the point I started to pick it back up a few days ago Tamiya White Primer I had to paint the head lights white first as the decals will not cover it. Then I painted the Yellow then black on the tail end. Then I begun the decal job NOT for chickens! You really have to believe in yourself with this decals job. So far I've used a gallon of decal set!!!!!!!! Years of decal laying experience defiantly is being tested with this car! The decals are really getting wrinkled up, but they are slowly smoothing out. If you dont like decaling DO NOT DO THIS CAR! I love decaling and I usually don't get worked up about decaling but this one is nerve-racking!

Masking and decaling always scare the heck out of me. Weeks of work can be wasted if you screw up either of them. I hope this one turns out okay, it's a cool car.

I got most of the decals on. Which was very challenging to say the least! I did clear coat the rear wing already to find out if the clear will be nice to these Studio 27 decals and the answer is YES they handled it just fine which is good because the clear coat will help me hide all of my decal mistakes I also discided to cover over the front fender louvers just like the real car....I'm just going to fill them in and cover over it with a flat white decal and some duct tape (dull Bar metal foil) just like the real car. If I can think of something I wouldn't mind added on those brush bristles to the under side of the car.

Cool, I MEAN KOOL!! Very good paint and decal work. A fine car and I am glad most of the Japanese companies have dropped the battery powered motor thing in favor of better detailing.
