Not much happening on the forum, other than Ron joining up, so let's try this: Today (16 December) marks the days that we lost both Collin Chapman, in 1982, and Giovanni Agnelli, in 1945. I thought it ironic that two such iconic auto builders share the same day. Any FIAT memories? Any Lotus memories? Frank

One of the things that impresses me about FIAT is the omnipresence of their parts. How many Formula Jr used FIAT running gear? Dozens of post war sports car used FIAT components. Living in Europe for a while, I saw more than my share of farms with FIAT 500 chicken coupes (two more doors, and they would have been chicken sedans). There is a carrousel at a local shopping mall, and while talking to the owner, I discovered that each animal rides on an early FIAT rear axle, bolted to the merry-go-round's frame, with a bell crank bolted to the input flange, moving the animal up and down! I resurrected a 500 once, got it running (but not stopping), but I couldn't get a clear title and got my money back. The Italians have a neat driving style in the cities-at a stop light, they put their 500s in the wrong lane, so you see four 500s facing you across the intersection! When the light changes to green, they out-drag the cars in the proper lane avoiding the 500s going in the opposite direction, doing the same thing! One huge criss-cross! Frank

Thanx for a posting of any kind here! I go to a number of others, but few have many road race builds. Ah,well. Skid's Place and Drastic Plastics will have to do for now. Thanks for the anniversary remembrances!
