I started this build a few months back and currently am building many, many parts so here we go,
History!
Months of research to start this build , The Alan Mann Ford GT40 AMRGT40 01/02 actually ran in the 67 Lemans race with a 302 Gurney Weslake Engine, but was run in Practice with the 427 Ford using Weber IDF 48 Downdraft cars, A ZF trans and the 2 cars were special factory Lightweight Chassis, it was declared illegal after practice and switched to the small block before the race.
I also found the site www.RacingIcons.com that has done a restoration one of the AMRGT40 01/02
The Build Begins!!
I stumbled across a set of Factory Drawing for the entire Ford GT40, and they are the basis for much of this Scratchbuild !
Here is a sample.
I picked up a AHM/Bandai Ford GT40 kit on ebay for a good price and pulled the Tub, Body parts and a few other pieces out and began to scratchbuild everything else.
The engine is based on the 1/16 AMY 427 Cobra kit, and thats it!
First thing I made was the ZF Trans, using the drawings and a bunch of pics.
This shows the block and trans and the kit part vs. the scratch built pieces.
Next up I knew there was going to be a problem with the Weber IDF 48 Carbs, so I made a master and sent it off to BJ Cunningham who resin cast a dozen for me and once I had them I detailed them up!
Kit weber left and the Master right
the master before sending it out
finished carb
factory drawing
Next Up A light weight Tub!
For those who would like to see more photos of everything involved you can look at the pics on my Fotki Album "1/16 Ford GT40 Alan Mann AMRGT40 01/02 WIP" at public.fotki.com/pmodwrks/
More to come later today!!! Chris
