Sandy, I have a friend that is currently taking the MPC kit and converting it to the M8F for his friend Rick Knoop, who currently vintage races the car. I will be seeing him this weekend and will try to take some shots of his progress. -Art That would be great, Thanks Art. Sandy

The 8-F upper body is also a little wider than an 8-D and it hangs down over the sides of the tub a little. Lots of little differences between them. The M20 is a very different creature altogether with the radiators near the front of the rear tires and the whole side "cut away" to feed them. It would have been (and still would be) awesome if AMT had continued their line of kits of the early pre-Can Am cars Like the Chaparral 2C, Lola T70, Hussein, etc. Monogram too with their slot car/model kit cars like the Chaparral 2D, Scarab MkII, Ferrari 275P, Ford GT, etc.
Us static model guys (especially ME) need to invest more effort into raiding the 1/24 slot car body realm. Lancer in North Hollywood made a bunch of fairly accurate early and pre-Can Am cars in 1/24 back in the day before American slot cars turned into totally unrealistic thingy's that looked like they'd been stepped on by an elephant.

A quick google lookll give you the specs to compare, but here's 2 links that will give you side images to compare. First the M8D: www.ultimatecarpage.com/img/3893/McLaren-M8D-Chevrolet.html And the M8F www.conceptcarz.com/view/photo/1338325,15080/1971-McLaren-M8F_photo.aspx The Highlights are The front of the F is shorter and more rounded, there are Air Dam's that run the body length to the Spoiler mount (to aid in Downforce by keeping the air from "spilling" off the body), rear view mirror mounts changed, extended NACA style duct on the sides, intake Stacks changed to the Calliope Style and the Spoiler is longer - front to rear. And as Dusty stated, all the external specs changed. I'd like to see what your friend ends up with on his build!

I asked Michael at Indycals what kit these were for and he said he sized them to fit the M8D at the request of a customer, as a custom order, He liked them so much he decided to offer them to everyone. Not correct in the scheme of things but at least they are available!!! Chris
