Hi, Was the MPC 1/20 M8D ever released as a kit of the M8F version with the full fences running fore and aft?

Hi Sandy
The Only M8F kits I'm aware of are all in 1/43 scale.

MPC/AMT have only released M8B & M8D versions. There may have been a German 1/24 slot car kit. Can't remember the company name. May have been Toj who I believe are now out of business. As Crazyed said, your only other option is 1/43 (Marsh & MA Scale).

I was wondering because Indycals has a 1/20 decal sheet for the 1972 Young American McLaren M8F of Francois Cevert. I guess it wouldn't be too big of a project to add the fences. That would be a neat one to do. www.indycals.net/decals/canam/72youngamericanm8f.htmlThanks for the info guys. Sandy

Sounds like an interesting project Sandy, but there's more to making a into a F. The nose is changes and the rearview mirrors are mounted low, not raised. The radiators are vented via NACA ducts that run fron infront of the rear wheels where the break ducts are on the D and the top vents need to be closed. The Stacks are calliope style and the center rear vent is larger. I'm sure there must be a t least a few more details, but I'm guessin' that ought to cover the biggies.

Ed, thanks for the info. I'll have it done by this weekend. OK, maybe not! This will be on the long term project list. I've always liked this MPC kit. One of my great all time "I Wish" things is that MPC had started a 1/20 Can Am series after the McLaren. Wouldn't some 1/20 Chaparrals, a Lola T-70, and earlier McLarens have been cool!

Sandy if MPC had done a series of 1/20 CanAm cars I would have many larger boxes than I have now. Imagine a series of McLarens and Lolas with Indy Cals grade decal options. Now as to Chaparrals (1/24-5 )or if whole set, 1/20)), Yep they'd been welcomed, but with a bit of looking the only one that it hard (impossible !?........) to find is the 2G, well unless one gets so desperate they'd settle for the Academy blob. Back to the MPC M8 d - Even as a stock kit the supplied decals do not allow for a correct unmodified build! The Rollbar either needs the Gurney loop removed or o use the supplied Rollbar you'd need to make another trip to Indy Cals for the Gurney/Gethin set. I'll be looking forward to your 8F build.

Sandy, You might consider taking a Tamiya Lola T160 (1/18 scale) and slice and dice it ala that weird modeler Patrick does with his Hong Kong toys. I know I've thought about it and use the McLaren as the base for the chassis. Just a crazy thought!

Sandy,
I have a friend that is currently taking the MPC kit and converting it to the M8F for his friend Rick Knoop, who currently vintage races the car. I will be seeing him this weekend and will try to take some shots of his progress.

Of course Polistil did a fairly poor M8F in 1/24 or so. I have their BRM P167 CanAm/Interseries car. I'm looking into the conversion possibilities. Patrick
