Have you ever considered putting all of your Cobra builds in a single source reference format? Like sort of a guide to building the Cobra in 1/25 scale. The Cobra is such a popular and iconic subject, you do very extensive and thorough research, and your models are to such a high standard that I think it would be an excellent resource.

I can understand a single source Cobra build place, and think the idea has a lot of merit, but it sounds like a time-consuming project. I'd rather AFX spent the time on those incredible builds, and use our secret board as a reference guide. Still... --Frank

Thanks Rob & Frank. Having built the AMT Cobra several times now I have developed some techniques for the kit. If you have any specific questions Rob I would be happy to answer them. Trying to encompass all my Cobra builds into one thread would be overwhelming both for myself and anyone wishing to read it. I try to show as many of the subject specific changes as I can in each build without getting to far into the weeds.

If you have a JoAnn's Fabric store near by, check out the ribbon section. They (she?) have a fine mesh ribbon that looks like the screen they used to keep the bugs and weeds out of the radiator back then. I've used it on my GT 40 builds, and it really is easy to work with. Great eye on those obscure details, like that radiator screening! Keep it up, and build on... --Frank

From the author of The Cobra-Ferrari Wars an owner of CSX2345 - an restored FIA roadster. cobraferrariwars.com/fia-roadster.html"I believe the number circles are 20", painted on. Peter Hoffman visited me in 1978 and measured the side number circles as 510 mm and the nose circle as 490 mm. The exhaust is under the bodywork and does not touch a plumb line dropped from the side of the door. The exhaust pipe is probably 4" and the fake muffler is probably 5". Peter measured the sidepipe diameter as 76mm and the side muffler as 92 mm. Muffler length was 635 mm." 76mm is 3" so my 3.2mm pipes are close.

Looks beautiful!
Those kidney beans look a little closer than the AMT version. That's the wheel the Dykes Tiger in my avatar had on it when Ron Dykes bought it from Hollywood Sports Cars (builder was Doan Spencer). Knockoffs weren't legal for SCCA Production classes unless the car was listed with them in the Homologation papers (Tigers were NOT listed with them), so we had to replace them with 4-lug bolt-on wheels.
That hardware cloth screen in front of the radiator is an old circle track racer deal. They call it a "shaker screen". Popular for muddy dirt tracks, the idea of the spring mounted screen is that the screen shakes as the car moves and shakes off tire-thrown mud clumps that collect on the screen. The shaking feature was probably not really needed for the pavement racing Cobras. Although it might have helped to rid the screen of straw from banged up "hay" bales often used to mark road race courses in those days and thus often shredded by wayward race cars. Straw bales were a little more race-car (and driver) friendly than the Armco barrier that replaced them and the portable concrete K-rails that replaced the Armco rails. It would also help dislodge paper trash picked up.

Thanks Richard. Yea these are the best kidney bean Hailbrands I've seen. They are available from HRM. The AMT Halibrands included in the Cobra kit are nice but very small. I haven't checked them but I would guess they would scale out to around 13".
