I have been modifying 1/18 scale diecast for the past fifteen years or so, and looking for a place to share.
Another member turned me on to this Forum, and just wanted to say Hi.

As a continuation to my introduction, I'll disclose that I have owned and driven three SCCA A Sedan/GT1 racers in a prior life. I started out in the '69 Camaro that I am sitting in as my avatar; then moved onto a former IMSA Corvette, bodied as an '82, sitting on a C3 chassis; and finally ended up with a Trans Am specification '86 Camaro that my race partner and a bunch of volunteers (and I) built from a bare chassis and cage.
One of my goals as a diecast collector and modeler has been to create replicas of all three of them, to the best as I could.
Creating a version of the first one was easy, as GMP produced a '69 Trans Am Camaro model, and all I had to do was have a very good friend of mine strip and repaint it.
The next one wasn't quite as easy, and I will devote an entire build thread to it in the proper section of this forum.
I have not been able to produce the third one, as a suitable donor body and chassis have been difficult to identify; however it is in the planning stages, and when that build happens, I will share with you accordingly.
Having looked at some of the other builds here, I am humbled by the extent of effort and detail that many of your pour into your models, and I applaud your efforts.
I have other builds that I have produced, some as simple as repaints all the way to reasonably complex rebuilds (some of which are fantasy racers, while others try to replicate true racers), and I will try to share them with you, as well.

I've worked on some 1/1 Trans Am/IMSA race cars in the past. I'd share some of them with you here, but for the Phototoilet debacle. I find that you've settled on Flickr. Perhaps I'll look into that again.
As far as duplicating your 86 Camaro GT1, perhaps a good start would be the Revell Buzz McCall early 90s Camaro kits. The chassis is originally from a Roush Mustang and the body is the next generation after yours. But maybe the body sides on an 80s Camaro and some re-work of the chassis with addition of the driver side door bars from a NASCAR kit?... I see it as a bit of work compared to the '69 Camaro, but quite doable. I have a few True Value 1/24 scale 1980s IROC Camaros. They're in a softer plastic, not styrene and the chassis is based on the Monogram NASCAR Chevy kits of the day. There MAY be some die cast kits of 80s Camaros. Depending on your chassis, you MAY be able to build a replica of your chassis based on a NASCAR kit.

And I share your pain on the PBucket fiasco, the photos here are some of the early one's I've moved over. Thanks for the suggestion and the offer for information. I only work in 1/18 scale, though. One thing I am looking at for replicating the '86 Camaro is using a SunStar 1982 Camaro as the body. And then maybe trying to fit it over one of the later model GMP Trans Am Camaro chassis (like we used to create this Skoal Bandit Camaro - which is only a repaint, but also is the wrong generation body for the real Skoal Bandit IMSA racer).

Funny how that GMP 1/18 model looks just like the Revell 1/25 on a Roush Mustang chassis. Under the hood is virtually identical, even the radiator top retainer. The Revell 1/25 kit is inaccurate in that regard for the car, but was a sort of "close enough" manufacturing choice. And that is the same generation body as used for the Revell.
