Built from Monogram's "Drag Strip Hot Rod" kit, this was created to assuage my longing for my "Bug" replica. Despite the many obvious differences, the engine, and cockpit are similar enough to have accomplished that goal. Clearly, I enjoy building old Monogram kits. Just as clearly, I have a thing for curbside builds (it keeps people from being as eager to handle them!).

Love the fuel tank-scratch built I assume. What about the hand fuel pump is that also scratch built?

JC, both are scratchbuilt. The pump is made of aluminum tubing, plastic end caps and a ball-ended straight pin was used for the handle. The fuel tank is made from Evergreen tubing, wrapped with tooling aluminum. I used aluminum duct tape perforated with a scriber for the "plumbers' tape" hold downs.

Nice build. That looks like a Tom Beatty blower drive setup. I have one of those Roadster kits stashed away in the rafters, so to speak. Your build is vaguely like what I have in mind for mine, but maybe a little more El Mirage than drag strip.

Your build is vaguely like what I have in mind for mine, but maybe a little more El Mirage than drag strip. It may be. I cobbled the blower from pieces in the parts boxes. I made the triple 'V' drive by punching alternating sized discs from Evergreen sheet and stacking them. I love that old dry lakes stuff, too! Thank you, Art!
