Will follow up closely.
That was one of the best races in history! Fabio Babini and Rene Rast were at it for 23 hours and 57 minutes! Check about 7:10 into this video
Thanks, Ismael

Ben, You've become a painting and decaling machine of late. And I'm just loving it. As for the proper colors, have you called or emailed Gravity of Spain and asked them? They do supply custom orders or have pre mixed colors with just different names. They just might know

Fortunately, Gravity already sells the Nardo Grey paint. I have the paint code for Daytona Grey, so I’ll have Gravity or Splash Paint mix it. I just want to confirm that I’m looking at the right color before I order, since a custom mix costs almost twice as much. I’m anxious to get started on this one, but I went ahead and started the Ford while I’m researching.

Ben, Should have known that you'd be one full step ahead of me at all times.
BTW, I'm working on the tires/wheels for the Porsche 911 GT1 build and I'm up to using the Tamiya tire lettering. Assuming that the decals are still good, I'm going to use your method as I saved the link for future reference.

Good luck! I’m batting about .500 with those backward decals. There doesn’t seem to be any rhyme or reason for why they work sometimes and not others. I avoid them when I can. Ben

Ben, Then I got real lucky as all for tires came out perfect, but the absolute proof will be tomorrow when I check them all out.
When those wet transfers didn't work for you, were they also Tamiya's or another manufactures?

Joel, I had trouble with Tamiya, Fujimi, and Hasegawa, but I think it was more a function of the age of the kit and my inexperience than anything. They were all at least 10 years old, with the Hasegawa ones being early 2000s vintage. That type of decal must not age as well as more conventional decals. I checked with Splash Paint for a custom mix for the Audi Daytona Grey. It's a pearl paint, so it costs double (~$30!) for a custom mix! I'm just going to order some Ford Liquid Grey from Gravity, since I need to get Nardo Grey from them, anyway. It's close enough for what I need. I don't think Audi touch-up paint would work, because if the metallic flakes are too large, the model will look like a bass boat. Ben

Ben, I always worry about kit decals from older kits. I try as best I can to source out AM decals for almost all my builds these days unless they're Cartograf decals.
Your paint plan sounds like it will work. I'm betting that it will turn out just about perfect.

I received shipments from Gravity Colors Spain and Splash Paints last week. I think I guessed right on the colors. The light gray is Porsche/Audi Nardo Gray from Gravity. Nobody makes Daytona Gray, and I didn't want to spend ~20 bucks on touch up paint or $30 having it custom mixed from Splash, so I took a chance and tried Ford Liquid Gray Pearl from Splash. It gets darker or lighter, depending on the light, just like Daytona Gray. I still need to clear coat the spoons, just to make sure these will work for me. I'll probably start painting things later this week. Both colors look darker in the photo than they actually are. Ben

Cool! Next time you can also try Jameston at Scalefinishes. He can mix any custom color for basically the same price.
Thanks, Ismael

Ben, The colors do look pretty darn good. With a gloss coat you should be just fine.
I've switched from Gravity paints to ScaleFinishes after talking it over with Ismael. Twice the paint for the same price, and their paints have a lot better coverage. I just ordered their Clear lacquer Glosscoat as I'm having all sorts of weird issues with the Mr. Color gloss.

I had forgotten about Scale Finishes. Splash usually charges $15 for a 60 mL bottle of custom color, but Daytona Gray is a pearl paint, which costs twice as much. The Liquid Gray is one of their normally-stocked colors and was their regular price, even though it's a pearl, too. Go figure.

Ben, I've never tried Splash paints, but I've only heard good things about them, and they're USA based as a plus.

Have you considered using Zero Paints or MCW?
