Ben, glad to know that the paint stains were from carelessness rather then a mini explosion and the straw blew off. What I've read about decanting from a few guys is that the paint isn't the same paint as the Tamiya Acrylic Lacquer, but 100% lacquer based, and just flows better then the Tamiya paint. Maybe that's why we love their new Lacquer line so much.
Like I said, I have 6 bottles of the Mr. Color Clear Gloss, and all are as thick as Honey. Since thinning them with their #400 self leveling thinner reducing the consistency to what we're use to air brushing it, I'd say that they just stopped adding the Thinner as a cost savings measure.

Ismael, At least you had the common sense to do it outside and not in the house. In theory your method should have worked just fine. But as you found out, theory and reality isn't always the same thing.

If you want to decant paint from a spray can, take a DeWalt impact driver and a self tapping screw, drive the screw into the can about 1/4 inch from the bottom. Hardly any paint will get out if you do it right. Then you can back out the screw just a touch to release the pressure in a controlled manner. After depressurization you just remove the screw and pour out the paint. This is best done when the wife is not at home.
Trust me, after 20 or 30 tries you'll be a master at it.

Paul, Somehow that method sounds like a complete disaster waiting.

Paul, Somehow that method sounds like a complete disaster waiting. joel The first time you try it? Yes it is. Best done outdoors and make sure the dog isn't anywhere close.
With a little practice it's really quite easy. Really. Trust me.
I really wish somebody would make that Gulf Blue in a rattle can.

Model car world made spray cans of many of their colors many years ago. I painted a Mini Exotics mirage with it and a Thunder Valley GT40. It’s too bad they stopped making them.

I'll be happy if mine looks anywhere near like that.

Yeah, that's several orders of magnitude better than mine! Well done, Joel!
I hope you and your wife are both on the road to mend. Of all my friends who have had hip, knee, and shoulder issues, the shoulder is the worst. I guess because the joint is so complicated.

Paul Thanks for your thumbs up, as always it's much appreciated. But I've seen many builds of yours, and I have no doubt that your 917K build will be the equal of mine, or most likely way better.

Ben, Since I consider us basically contemporaries in both age and building style, your thumbs up is a big plus to me as a build well done.

Joel,
That's a beautiful rendition of a beautiful car in itself, in one of the most beautiful and famous color schemes. Well done! I really like it!
Thanks, Ismael

That’s an outstanding representation of an iconic race car! I think Pedro Rodriquez would appreciate and approve.
