Virtually every built model or die-cast I've ever seen of this car has the tire lettering in gold. I just did a quick search and found 4 very definitive pictures that clearly show white lettering, and only one (not real clear) that COULD be gold. All show a gold ring. I built one of these as a a young teenager, my very first Tamiya kit, in any scale, and I did the lettering in gold. When I build my next one it will have white lettering for sure! Your tires and wheels look great, by the way! Glad the Armor-All helped! Brian Oh it did, Brian... it's amazing how much they cleaned up! I've never seen gold lettering... just white. I think I will stick with white. The chrome was stripped with bleach and not Purple Power. I found it scarred the plastic or left a residue that I couldn't sand off. The gold is Tamiya rattle can Gold. I never expected such good coverage with two mist coats and one heavier coat... no where near a wet coat. Just a heavier mist. I love how they came out. Why did Ferrari use a gold wheel? Was it an alloy? I'm pretty sure real gold is way too soft. I wonder what Enzo's reasoning was for the gold wheel look. It is accurate to the era. Your very first Tamiya? In 1/12th scale? Very brave lad indeed! Thanks for the nice words!

Brian I found this photo and it looks like a real car to me... but before you see the photo, can anyone tell me about the white tube going to the front of the rear wing and the chrome appendage on the top of the rear of the wing? Also the kit has a single screw that attaches the wheel to the spindle. Is there a source for the lug nuts that are so clearly visible on these wheels? I would love to duplicate them and the chrome cap on the fronts! I also just noticed the very obvious joints on the exhausts! Why have I been knocking myself out trying to make these smooth? The things we learn... Also any valve stem ideas?

I just ordered some sheets of rivets for this car and the Matra that has them so visible in case I sand some of them off like on the front wing trying to get rid of some very nasty gaps...

The things we learn... Also any valve stem ideas? Your lug nuts look like they are already on your wheels. Could you just pick them out with some silver paint? As for the tube and appendage, I found this pic: The tube is definitely going into the rear wing, looks like it's coming out of the motor. Is it connected to the "appendage" on the wing? Some sort of oil cooler breather or something? Valve stems? www.rbmotion.com/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=269www.spotmodel.com/product_info.php?products_id=10715

The other posted pictures gave it away, but I really couldn't tell one way or the other.

I;m moving my tire/valve stem/lettering/wing thingies over here where they belong and not in Mike's 641/2 build thread!
Thanks for all the help from everyone! Will try to get something done on at least one tire tomorrow... and look at how best to screw up the lug nuts... maybe a puddle of Molotow with a sharpened toothpick!

Don't do that Mikey! I promise I'll be good! We just needed to fill the void! LOL!
How progress coming? Hope you aren't discouraged because the kit is a beautiful car when it's done, and I didn't do half the detailing that you are doing!

Hope you aren't discouraged because the kit is a beautiful car when it's done, and I didn't do half the detailing that you are doing! I suppose I have been a little slack lately! I'm gonna blame it on work...been too busy and I'm not 18 anymore. By the time I get home, eat, clean up, shower...it's almost time to go back to work! I'm not one to sit at the bench for half an hour, I feel I can't get anything done. I like to work at it on weekends when I can sit down for 4 or 5 hours at a time. I still may not accomplish a lot but at least it feels like I did. Of course, I only get to see my kids on the weekend so, although it's not every weekend, I don't want to sit and work on a model while they are here. I'm sure they wouldn't mind but that's not how I play. So, discouraged?...No. Time management woes?...Oh hell yeah. Ah well, I'll get some time in this weekend for sure. My youngest is coming over Friday night but going to a friend's party Saturday so I'll get a few hours in Saturday night. I want to have it finished for a show on April 18th but I don't want to rush it, either. We'll see how it goes...

I hear you Mike ... its probably the one thing I am struggling with the most right now - time. I always want spend the entire day at the bench ..but that's obviously impossible. My wife is simply wonderful and very understanding of my addiction but at the same time I really feel sometimes like I am not spending enough time with her because I'm just way to excited about this build Luckily we have no children which makes it much easier, but work gets in the way big time ... and fatigue.

I am not at all happy with this job... the only thing that worked out well is the Firestone logo. I was using a sharpened toothpick with really thinned white paint. Yuck!

What paint are you using? I think craft acrylics are more forgiving for this type of work.
