I thought it was about time to get back to where I belong, 1/12th that is. And with all the stores closed I'm running low on supplies so time to build a bike. This time I picked Tamiya's kit of Hailwoods Manx TT winner. Kit looks good:

That is a great kit. I've seen several built up and they look fantastic. Did you get any of the upgrade kits for it?

I've been checking the little bit of upgrade stuff I've squirreled away and I don't think I have any for this bike.
"Insert some harsh language!"
So far I've just been painting half the kit aluminum, I think some subtle shade changes might be needed just to give some contrast. I'll try to post what I mean as I go.

This little bugger is time consuming. The cooling fins were created by making the cylinder block and head out of razor thin layers. Who needs photo etch when you could shave with the styrene. It has some alignment dimples, but they're next to useless. I lined it up by inserting two appropriate sized drill bits into the cylinder bores and sliding each layer down into place. That was a little wobbly so I ended up with six drill bits. Seemed to work fine, as long as you get everything oriented properly. The colour effect I got on the block was by simply clear coating the grey plastic, 4 mist coats of Tamiya pearl clear. The rest is gold, titanium gold, metallic grey and silver. I lost count of how many silver cap screw heads this thing has!
One thing bike building teaches you is patience. Next step is 6 carbs and their plumbing. A more or less complete basic 250cc Honda 6:
It really was a little jewel of design and creation.

I finished step 4, the only complaint is there's 6 of everything.

Thx guys. I made a little progress, never ever try to hurry a bike build . This is the engine set in the tube frame. The foot pegs are steel, and some photo etch still to come. Finicky but it all fits so far!
Those ignition wires will teach you patience and anger management skills.

I have made some progress. Tamiya's idea of how to make a wire wheel (I understand their reasoning, I just don't like it) combined with my neuropathic deficiencies don't mix. I'm very unhappy with the end result, but in this case I'm going to order the upgraded wheels package. Since everything important is screwed together, I can swap them out later. I would suggest not trying this kit without a magnetic screwdriver! So, I got this far:
