My new project arrived today. I've been trying to pick one of these kits up off of eBay for months, and keep losing the auctions because I'm too cheap to bid a lot of money. This one popped up for ten bucks, because it was missing the decals. I guess that scared everyone off. I'll be using Calvin's conversion with Indycals decals. I'll have to wait to start it until after I finish my current battle... er, project. Revell Reynard with Speedline decals. This isn't a particularly fun kit to begin with, and the decals were a PITA, and wouldn't settle down without a lot of wrinkling. The swooshes on the nose were nothing like what the instructions show, and never fit properly. I never started a build thread, because I'm not really liking the model. I'm having The Stig sit in for Gil de Ferran, since Speedline didn't provide anything for the driver figure. Ben

Ben, Now that's one impressive Reynard for sure. One would have a real hard time seeing that this kit put up much of a fight judging from what I'm seeing.
And you just know that I'll be following your Porsche 962c build for sure.

Thanks, Joel. I'm looking forward to starting the Porsche. The Reynard was part of the latest group build going on at the Grassroots Motorsports forum. I built it just to get it off of my Shelf of Doom. They're sort of fiddly kits, and the fit if the nose area is pretty bad. The seam runs right through the lower front suspension, so the only way to clean it up is to cut the arms off and pin them. My crappy cell phone pics make the model look better than it really is.

From what I'm seeing you'd never know that you were having any trouble with it but I think I can understand where you're at with it. I had a build that I shelved for three years because of difficulties like that. Looking forward to seeing that Porsche being built.

Since my last post, I’ve finished the Reynard. I almost needed a third hand to get the front suspension together! I think I’ve built all of the Revell Reynard I’m ever going to build, now. On to the Porsche! Ben

Ben, I never did finish the Reynard I started........grrrrrrrrrrr! What's worse is the Revell Williams FW19 kit (Villeneuve's car). It's almost impossible to make look decent. I applaud your success!

Ben & Paul, I've been weakening about the Revell kits, but after what both of you have said, the horror stories I use to read years ago are now coming back to me. I just might take the plunge and look for some resin/multi media kits for this coming winter.

Beautiful Reynard! I'll follow the 962. Always liked the Lowenbrau livery! I built the Revell Williams FW19. I remember cursing the decals from the top of my lungs It is actually posted here somewhere. Thanks, Ismael

I normally love decals, but I haven't had very good experiences with Speedline decals. This was my 4th Reynard (the black & white Shell car got scrapped), and the kit decals are fantastic. They were printed by Cartograph. They required a lot of Solvaset to get them to conform to some of the more complex areas, but they turned out great in the end. I used Speedline on the center car and had to buy a second sheet for patching gaps from poor fit and have some of the white ones redone with an ALPS printer. On to the Porsche! Ben

The Valvoline / Reynard driven by Gil De Ferran is one of my favorite Indycars of all time, a Great driver, excellent Livery and a pretty good car ( the real one not the kit) I believe this was the road course version from the Portland race? Despite the many obstacles, Your replica is very nicely done and represents the car well. Thanks for sharing, I have a 1/18 diecast that I plan on converting to this same car..a first for me but it was, at the time the only replica chassis to be had. Chris

Top notch stuff Ben!! Turned out great!!! Every now and then the subject matter seems to take priority over ease of build. I've been there a couple of times.

Ben, All three Indy Cars look fantastic. You really did a great job. I've never used Speedline decals, and from what you're saying, I'm not planning on using them any time soon.
Looking forward to following your 962c conversion with a great deal of interest, as Calvin's conversion kit opens up a like of great possibilities.

On the IMSA 962 each team had a different idea on the Turbo Bump, check them out based on your application a Pro stock drag style scoop small scoop the Foyt Bump the whole array! and the Lowenbrau These all varied by race, team and day of the week....but just letting you know... these is a possibility You car was initially run with just the conversion like Calvin's transkit has.. Thanks for the kind words, everyone! Chris, thanks! I’ve noticed Holbert’s car was different in every race. I was planning to stick with what Calvin has in his conversion set, just to keep my life relatively simple. This build is probably about as far as I’m going to stray from mostly out of the box with my car models. I build them as a break from airplanes, where I tend to get a bit carried away sometimes. Ben
