The Giro d'Italia automobilistico was an automobile race around Italy, historically first held in 1901, then reinstituted as annual event between 1973 and 1980, resurrected for 1988 and 1989, and again in 2011. Both in its historical and modern iterations the Giro d'Italia was inspired by its French equivalent, the Tour de France Automobile. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Giro_d%27Italia_automobilistico

I believe that was with Gilles Villeneuve driving it. Signed up by Enzo Ferrari after doing one race for McLaren (the 1977 British Grand Prix), Villeneuve had finished the 1979 F1 season one week earlier with a win in the United States Grand Prix at Watkins Glen (his fourth victory in 12 months). As Ferrari were also part of Fiat group a deal was done that saw Villeneuve installed alongside Rohrl and Geistdorfer in Lancia’s number 576 Alitalia entry. This car was chassis 1002 and had been used on a shake-down run in the Vallelunga 6 Hours one month before. Comprising a 2280km route with 480km of competitive driving and 1800km of regularity transfers, the six-day Giro was split into five stages each with a series of Special Tests, Circuits and Climbs. Rohrl lost 20 minutes within the first 100 yards after all the electrical systems cut out in the Alitalia entry but aside from some set up issues the team was most severely plagued by a lack of organisation in the transfers. Lost time for both cars was being made up but when the leading Facetti-Finotto Porsche 935 retired during the third stage Lancia’s Alitalia entry inherited top spot and did not relinquish it. Villeneuve was called away for other promotional duties after stage four by which time the sister car of Patrese / Alen / Kivimaki had risen to second. Rohrl held on in the remaining circuit race at Monza and crossed the Turin finish first ahead of the sister car in second. However, five hours later both Lancias were disqualified for taking incorrect routes during the regularity stages handing victory to the Porsche 935 of Giorgio Schon, Emilio Radaelli and Giampiero Moretti. Gilles Villeneuve remained at Ferrari until his untimely death during qualifying for the 1982 Belgian Grand Prix, but his hard-charging style ensured he became an iconic figure in the sport. supercarnostalgia.com/blog/lancia-gilles-and-the-1979-giro-d-italia

Added an extension to the chassis plate to more closely resemble the 1:1. Devised secure mounting methods for the oil cooler radiators (drivers side) and the turbo intercooler (passenger side).

- Stance with the front suspension mocked up
- Reduced the size of the rear wheel openings and enlarged the front

Thanks Joel. The kit has decent bones just needs work to turn it into a better replica of the 1:1.

Thanks Bill. Did a test, sanded off the molded spring detail and wrapped the shock body with wire. A nice improvement I think. Once the assembly is painted I will use the red coated wire to replicate the spring.

The hood out of the box is flat and doesn't follow the curve of the cowl. To get the gentle curve in the hood and to hold that shape I cut a piece of aluminum sheet (roof flashing). After shaping it I superglued and clamped it to the underside. Nice gentle curve now.
