I have been in a slump most of the month, so I decided to do a project that different but has been in my mind for a while. A 29 Ford Pick Up with a Supercharged Straight Eight engine. So far I Z'd the rear frame section and added about an inch to the frame, made a spring perch for the front which will use the R&D Unique metal drop axel set up with stainless radius rods and disc brakes. The rear is a R&D 4 link with a Ford 9 inch Pumpkin also using stainless tubing for the 4 link set up. Everything is in the prep state right now , I have channeled the main body down over the frame. The wheels are from the "Boss 32" kit and look great, rubber is period rear slicks (out of an original AMT Parts Pak) and little fronts. The Straight * from the SMER Alfetta kit was missing so much and very basic, but I found detail shots and am making the Intake plenum, distributors, carb and te supercharger. so much its hard to find all the research. I finally did in the MFH 1/12 Alfa 159 engine kit instruction sheets, a complete break down of what is on the engine. Much easier than guessing or faking it just to get it built. The straight Eight is a lot longer than a V-8 or 4 banger so I had to add length to the chassis as needed. Looks long and low though. a couple of pics so you get the idea. more to come.. Chris

This hobby is truly a universe in itself. Subject-wise this is probably the farthest opposite of me as it can get, yet I'll follow to enjoy the craft and see what I can learn in the process.
Thanks, Ismael

I was diggin in the parts boxes and found a old Chevy auto trans, in grey plastic? yeah I know... it fit the block nicely, so that solved a problem. Its going to be a very short drive shaft, that's for sure! These Weber carbs are huge! and will definitely send the message (HORSEPOWER) when installed, pics when I get them mounted.. Chris

Chris, Talk about a change of pace. But if it gets you back to the bench, that's the important thing. The chassis looks the part for sure, but the work on the engine is at another whole level.

Making progress (click for larger image) I added engine mounts, I painted the frame a nice gloss black, bolted the rear 4 link set up in with the metal Ford 9 inch. Next up is to bolt the metal front suspension in, set it on the tires and wheels, mount the photo etch disc brakes on all 4 corners and get the body sitting pretty. I still havent thought much about paint for it yet, Candy Purple, Deep Dark Metallic Blue or ? Give Me Your Thoughts!!!! . The red plastic looks nice but not what I'm looking for. May do the seat in Tan leather ( yeah real leather.. ) more to come.. Chris

Chris, Dark Blue Metallic sounds like the way to go color wise.

I cut all the stainless steel tube .022 dia. and fit the rod ends in, and then pretty much mounted the front and rear suspensions in place. with the engine temporarily mounted it looks like a proper set up. All the suspension is metal so its been a bit of a chore to get it on correctly.. On to the engine detail , brakes, body and interior.. I have been thinking about the paint. Light Gun Metal with Gold stripes or really Dark metallic Blue with Gold stripes? After the brakes are on I can mount the Big N' Little Tires and wheels and get the chassis off the ground. Pretty much a scratchbuild but a bit different than most Rods.. Chris

Sorry Joel, That is Thinwall Stainless Steel Tube on the Radius Rods and Trailing Links. The Axle, Leaf Springs and Rear end are White Metal... No aluminum here!! LOL. Thanks for the comments though. This has been a lot of fun to again scratchbuild a complete car.. Chris
