I had originally thought this was a Lotus 49 or maybe a type 38, further research showed it to be a Lotus 42F , originally built as a Indy car but after testing, it was never run in the 500. There was about 70 built most were shipped to Australia, and other countries then run in F5000 series. a few were run here in 67 to 69 F5000 equipped with Chevy small blocks, a few 302 Fords and a coupe of DFV engines. click pic to enlarge, last pic shows a small block out of a MPC 57 Corvette. Since the kit was designed as a "Indy 500 Lotus" it has a offset suspension so the kit parts will be of no use for this build. A bunch of scratchbuilding is going to go into this F5000 42F Lotus. If anyone has a 1/16 Transaxle they can spare please PM Me. Here is a link to the Transaxle I did in 1/16 for my long time AMR GT40 01/02 build. race-car-models.proboards.com/thread/49/16alan-mann-ford-gt40-amrgt40 ( its about 1/2 way down the page) I may end up making a Hewland in a similar fashion. more to come as I start to actually build ... Chris, there were two Lotus 42 chassis built. You might want to read this..
cheers mate
Edit: As run at Indianapolis the car would only have had the outboard fuel cell on the left side. Other than that the kit does look like a 42.

1/16th is an odd scale for me, but I have bought these in 1/12th from 3D, excellent quality, maybe some use to you

Chris, Just a great project. I'll be following along for sure. Honestly, I never even knew that this kit existed. Guess I really need to get out of the house more.
