Looking forward to this build for sure. A Mustang in any configuration is cool....specially in a racing one.

I agree Gary nothing like a racing Mustang! The chassis in the AMT '66 kit leaves a lot to be desired. I'll be replacing it with the more detailed AMT '67 Shelby chassis, suspension and engine. I cut the inner fender free from the '67 body and attached them along with the firewall to the front clip just as they would be on the 1:1 A little finagling and it fits the '66 body pretty well. Added inner lips to the front fender to support the hood. Also added strips along the inner edge of the fenders to tighten up the hood gap.

JC, may have to steal some of your idea's. here are a couple decal options, the 33 car is stated as being built by Shelby American for Ken Miles but unfortunatly Ken never got to race it. car#33 Platto's Place car #1 e-bay

That's why we post these WIP projects to help others with theirs - steal away Bill. What is the deal with the red backing paper on the Dick Thompson set - do you have to paint match the paper background?

Many Group II cars retained the chrome trim - I chose to remove it along with the emblems.

i would assume the deal film is clear, but however you cut decal is how it will look on model even the white border around decal sheet. you have to be really good with scissors and makes it not a very good decal sheet. would be impossible to cut out drivers name, so the red on decal would not match the red you paint body.

I assume the decal sheet is red because the white lettering would not show up on a non-mass produced white sheet.

The '67 interior (yes I'm using the '67 interior in a '66 ) is for a fastback so I had to fabricate the back half to fit the notchback body. The notchbacks competed in the Sedan Class and as such were required to have 4-seats. However I want to install the over-ride rear traction bars that have a mounting point under the rear seat. Not sure I can make all that fit under the seat so I fabricated a GT350 style insert in case I need it. I want to simplify the door cards and still need to fabricate a 4-point roll hoop. But the interior fits with the glass in place!

It looks great so far. Always nice when the glass doesn't interfere, but rare! Love these Mustang conversions.

Thanks Paul. When you are doing these conversion you think the interior fits then you install the glass and you have problems - learned that the hard way too many times.

Thanks Paul. When you are doing these conversion you think the interior fits then you install the glass and you have problems - learned that the hard way too many times. Yup! Test fit ....modification....test fit.....mod some more for fit.....and then some MORE test fit. I've learned the hard way more than once. You'd think I'd learn the first time. Good progress here JC
